I'm very sad, and still in shock I think.

Eddie our gorgeous 16 yo standard poodle had to be put to sleep last night.
He had a fit in his sleep at 10pm and then kept collapsing and had obviously lost all his sight. We rushed him to the vets but given his great age and all his other age related problems it was decided to let him go. We came home at 11pm clutching his collar and blanket and that was that.

I shall miss his silly floppy ears and giant paws and his curly afro head.
RIP Edward x x

Sad times Sad and have a ((hug)). There'sa few of us who have been here over the last few weeks.

They leave a massive hole in your heart and and even bigger hole in the house.

Sad but what a magnificently long life he had! and no suffering at the end.

Big hug for you Judge Judy X

Oh Judy, so very sorry. A similar thing happened to my childhood dog and it was heartbreaking. Thinking of you. Thanks

JudgeJudyKicksAss · 27/10/2014 09:12

Thankyou. We've been expecting to say goodbye to him for a while but its still a shock.
I'm trying to post a photo of him but I'm struggling. Will keep trying.

Here he is a fortnight ago doing his favourite (only!) activity - sleeping.

Feel a bit calmer now. Thanks for letting me share.

I've always had dogs but letting them go doesn't get any easier each time it happens.

Big hugs to everyone Thanks

So sorry for your loss, he sounds a much loved and happy dog and his photo is just lovely Flowers

How are you today, Judy? Must be very odd and sad.

I vowed never to get another dog after my old boy was pts. Took me 10 years and very persistent kids to get another.

I am already wishing I hadn't, she's only 2 and I am already dreading it.

That said, if we didn't give these doggies such amazing lives, they may have ended up somewhere without as much love and happiness.

Hope you're doing ok. Thanks

What a beautiful boy.

Im sorry for your loss. It's heartbreaking everytime isn't it.

JoffreyBaratheon · 29/10/2014 23:15

He was a beauty. I know how you're feeling now. We lost our 14 year old bull terrier 2 months ago, so am with you. Found ourselves still closing the gate, and even talking to her for several weeks and even now I can't believe there's an empty space next to me on the sofa. (She was also big on sleeping, the last few years of her life but even when young adored being on the sofa and would steal the best place, slowly but surely. It was her one talent!)

I always say I will go through that pain, whenever it comes, as the price to pay for the years of happiness and love they give.
