Really good quality walking boots?

Every pair I have had over the past 2 and a half years have fallen to bits/the sole has worn away/they've split down the sides. It's ridiculous. I just want a good pair of boots that will bloody last!!

Don't think you can beat Merrells. And they do some different designs. I bought these for under £100 and they certainly do the job.

I have a pair of Scarpa walking boots that DH bought me many many moons ago - they cost £60 14 years ago, so a lot of money then but they have been worth every penny. I wear them most winters and they are just the cat's pyjamas. This the pair in their current range that look most like what I have.

mrslaughan · 21/10/2014 09:08

when I got mine, the guy at the local outdoor store said go for leather, the ones with the synthetic uppers with not last, with the sort of wear they will get walking a dog every day.

I went to the Cotswold shop and had a proper fitting and loads of advice from one of their specialists. Would definitely recommend.

Berghaus boots, lasted way way better than my old Merrells & so comfy.

WeAreGroot · 21/10/2014 17:33

I wear these Berghaus ones.

My first pair lasted about 4 years of being worn pretty much daily in all weathers with very little cleaning or maintenance and I've recently replaced those with an identical pair.

Can you still get Lomer walking boots? If so I'd recommend them! I got a pair in 1994 before I started my Duke of Edinburgh award training and they still fit me - 20 years later!!

LostandConfused33 · 21/10/2014 17:50

I second the recommendation for Scarpa but to be honest Merrell and Berghaus should also be pretty good I just prefer Scarpa as they seem to be a good fit for me. My first pair did 6 years of uni and PhD fieldwork (I eventually killed them when saltwater corroded the metal), the 2nd pair did the next 7 years or so and were killed by my drying them in front of a fan heater that got so hot it melted the glue at the front of the soles - even then they hung on in with the addition of some superglue for quite some time!

I also agree with the recommendation of Cotswold Outdoors, very helpful. Or even better an independent store but they are rare these days.

I like my Chris Brashers and I have a pair of Keene Targhee that are like a pair of bedroom slippers (in that they are comfortable, not that they are tartan with a blue pompom on the front!)

Meindl by far the best, my lhotse ones have lasted ages, and I have worked as a ranger in the Scottish highlands if that makes a difference (ie wearing them hillwalking every day!) my husband has a similar job and only wears meindl as well (but a different type, can't remember what they're called but they come halfway up your calves). Expensive but well worth the money!

ARightOldPickle · 21/10/2014 18:51

Another vote for Scarpa, had my leather ones for 3 years so far. So comfy, they are slightly wider fitting so fit my odd shaped feet really well. Would second going to an outdoor store so you can try different makes and have them fitted properly.

GoofyIsACow · 21/10/2014 18:54

Sinclair I love those! I have just bought new karrimor walking shoes too!

Springcleanish · 21/10/2014 19:27

I have some Altberg ones, they are great for wider feet. Pricey, but so comfortable.
