Why piddling at night?

Our lovely Border cross started peeing in middle of kitchen floor at night, having been fully dry. Got fed up of stepping in it/mopping up so crated her (in her lovely soft crate) for a while then tried again. Was ok for a few weeks then back to peeing. Back in crate for two weeks till last night when we left her out - pee. Why is she doing it? She is a fit healthy 7 yr old and it perfectly able to hold it when crated. She seems very happy in her 'cave' but I feel bad shutting her in each night. All advice gratefully received.

Get her vet checked for a UTI or anything else. If she is all clear I would hazard a guess that she either feels more secure in her crate or accidents aren't being thoroughly cleaned.
