whippet - possible allergy?

Hi went to meet a gorgeous whippet pup yesterday, we all fell in love with him and breeders other whippet pets. Shortly after leaving I developed hives to neck and face and an incredibly sore itchy eye. We are abloutely gutted paid the deposit and finally thought dreams of owning a whippet was coming true! Part of me is convinced that I am definitely allergic to whippets and how could I possibly go through the trauma of taking him home to find I would have to return him, I also have dc and dp feelings to consider. My lovely long haired lurcher was put to sleep last year after 15 wonderful years and and it has taken 18 months to get to the stage to consider a new dog. I have had any allergic reactions to dogs in the past but had to stop horse riding due to bad allergy 20 years ago. I know I have to call the breeder but just feel so sadSad Sad Has anyone else had similar experience?

Did the breeder have any horsey things hanging around...even a bit of old leather or clothes, or maybe the bedding? I would chat to the breeder, seems unlikely that you would be allergic to whippets and not lurchers but an allergy can develop at any time.

Thank you for replying. I have phoned breeder think she sounded a bit surprised. Have arranged to visit again in half term, fingers crossed.
