Dog bite - tetanus?

Dh was out running with our two dogs this morning and another dog unexpectedly bit him on the thigh. It is quite bad (a fair amount of blood) but it was through his shorts which are still intact. Does he need to go for a tetanus even though his shorts were inbetween him and the dog's teeth?

It's unlikely he will get tetanus from a dog bite though it is part of the treatment protocol to update it. Any dog (or cat) bite that has broken the skin should be treated with antibiotics (potentiated amoxicillin) as there is a high risk of infection from the many bacteria present in animal's mouths. He needs to go to out of hours GP or walk in centre.

Also he should report it to the police, it's an offence under the dangerous dogs act. Hope he is ok.

If it's pierced the skin he needs antibiotics like bakingtins said.

Anti bis, no doubt. While he's in there they'll probably do tetanus too. I was bitten badly by a cat and the nurse just shot me with everything. Smile

Ooh good job I asked! I'll send him to the docs. Thanks all Smile
