6mo lab cut his pad open

our boy cut his front pad yesterday, decent sized cut. Stopped bleeding after about 15 mins, tried to bandage him but he pulled it straight off. then I noticed blood on floor again at home but not much.

today he's been his normal self but is limping and holding it 'lame'.

no experience of this so would appreciate advice. do we just leave it? or do we try another diy effort before vets?

What did he cut it on, do you know? Sometimes there is a bit of something still in the cut and antibiotics might not be a bad idea.
But suturing is often a waste of time, and proper veterinary bandaging and a 'boot' for a couple of weeks ( or even more) will probably be the answer.

we were at the rugby club near the clubhouse so could easily have been glass. that was my guess.

so you'd take him to vet for a proper bandaging?

I'd bring him to the vets.
if its a deep enough cut to still be bleeding today he will likely need antibiotics and if he's holding the paw and limping its clearly painful so I'm sure he would appreciate the painkillers.
I wouldnt be surprised if he has to be sedated and have the wound flushed if its in anyway deep. Its shocking how often slivers of glass can get trapped in paw wounds.
bandage and a cone of shame to stop him pulling it off may be on the cards until it heals over.

Yes, take him to your vet for an examination, antibiotics if deemed necessary and a dressing.
Hopefully he heals quickly.

Yes, take him to vet, if its a deep cut likely to get infected.
Wish I'd gone to the vet when my lab suddenly started limping, I noticed a small cut and just kept an eye on it and he seemed fine the next day. Then 2 weeks later limping again and paw obv painful when I touched it.
Took him to vets and he had to have a GA because impossible to do anything when he was conscious, turned out the original cut had healed on top but there was an infection underneath. Large bandage, antibiotics/painkillers, total cost £360 Shock.

Took him to vet and she was very sweet. Said that if we'd taken him in in Saturday there would've been a small chance of stitching it. However, very quickly with lads they swell up which makes it nigh on impossible to treat. So recommended some doggy boot thing.

All clean and not infected though. Phew!
