My dog is drinking a lot more water lately, any ideas?

She's a jack Russell, 12 and has been in perfect health all her life, she's still bouncy and doesn't seem at all unwell.

Trip to the vets tomorrow - blood test needed, poss kidneys? Hope all goes well, treatment is available so don't delay x

Yeah, get her checked out. Maybe useful to measure her water so that you can tell vet how much she actually drinks.

Kendodd · 06/10/2014 09:49

Thanks. I feared kidneys, diabetes even. She still seems in perfect health though and bouncing around happily.

In a similar situation previously and my vet asked me to bring a sample of dog's urine - maybe check - almost impossible to do though!

Better to get checked now as even though she seems well she may not be. Early diagnosis can allow for supportive care which can help keep her bounce for as long as possible.

Managed to get a urine sample from her, I'll take it to the vet later. Her water drinking seems to have returned to normal now, maybe she just had a self limiting kidney infection?

Has her food changed?
