Ok, new rescue dog looks imminent.

What do you recommend for a lurcher of around 6 months.....

I've heard a recall book and a puppy book mentioned but can't remember the authors.

Obviously positive reward based training methods.

I use Total recall Pippa Matteson and the Kikopup youtube videos. I bought Perfect Puppy but didn't find it much use.

Thanks.

Life Skills for Puppies should be compulsory reading for new puppy owners imo.

Total Recall, already recommended is another invaluable book as are the Kikopup videos.

I'm not a big fan of Perfect Puppy either.

I agree on Perfect Puppy, but Total Recall is great.

Do you know anything of their history before rescue? Our older dog was surrended at 6 months, and had not been kept in a house so house training was a priority, followed by recall. But he had seen a lot of things, so getting out wasn't vital - a dog who hasn't seen bicycles/ scooters/ cars etc might need a lot of encouragement and exposure
