What breed that you DON'T have, would you like to have?

I thought this would be interesting because if you ask someone what breed they recommend, they naturally always say the one they've got! So could you tell me what other breed, that you don't own, have you always quite fancied and why?

For eg I have always had standard poodles and think they are fantastic dogs. However I have always liked the look of Greyhounds because they seem very gentle and loving, elegant, clean and I like the idea of a spurt of intense exercise leading to a long afternoon snooze!

What is your secret breed crush?

Have a dalmatian but would love a little Yorkie. My old neighbours had one and I loved him lots. He did suffer from small dog syndrome and was definitely up for making himself the boss when they got a lab as well.

I do love my dalmatian. Smart cookie who does a great impression of being a total idiot. Grin she's a bit crazy, super affectionate and is good at telling you when she's had enough of her walk by just buggering off home.

Sallystyle · 27/09/2014 16:26

I want an

Italian Greyhound
Pom
Long haired Chihuahua
Toy poodle
Pug
Anything small and fluffy

Owllady · 27/09/2014 17:48

An airdale terrier

Rainicorn · 27/09/2014 17:57

Currently have a doberman x and a JRT but would love a mini dachshund, a Great Dane or a pug.

weaselwords · 27/09/2014 18:22

Sorry Tauriel1, I missed your question. He was big and looked a lot like a giant schnauzer. I'm not sure where the "terrier" bit comes from for Black Russian terriers as quite a big dog, There was just something about him. He was a dude.

PumpkinsMummy · 27/09/2014 18:26

I have a pug and a poodle whippet cross. Dream dogs include

French bulldog
Great Dane
Dog de Bordeaux
Mini dachshund
Neopolitan mastiff
Mini pinscher
Black pug (not cheating as I have a fawn one)
Bedlington terrier
toy poodle (with pom poms - you'd have to)
Shi-tsu

I am sure to think of some more shortly lol.

YouveCatToBeKittenMe · 27/09/2014 18:29

I would like an Italian Spinone - but someone told me they are a bit stoopid

or a Bernese Mountain dog, - but I don't think they have a long life span

Or a Beagle because I love their howly bark. (I know about their reputation for no recall, hard to house train and constant chewing!)

VivaLeBeaver · 27/09/2014 18:30

A Schnoodle.

MothershipG · 27/09/2014 18:49

I have a Mini Schnauzer (will never have another!) and 2 Affenpinschers (will always have at least one Affen).

Also want
A black & tan Pomeranian
A Papillion to do agility with
A Finnish Spitz just because I love them!
An Alaskan Klee Kai because I love the idea of a mini Husky (but I've not heard good things about their breeding or temperament so would have to be very careful.)

Looking at that think I've got a bit of a Spitz thing going on!

VivaLeBeaver · 27/09/2014 19:06

Why not another Schnauzer MotherShip?

TangledUpInGin · 27/09/2014 19:15

I've a Dobermann who is amazing but I would love a bloodhound or an Irish wolfhound - basically a dog as big as a small pony Grin

BestIsWest · 27/09/2014 19:49

Why not another miniature Schnazer? Ours is fantastic.

CherryLips1980 · 27/09/2014 20:07

I have a weimaraner. Who is adorable, obviously. But secretly I'd love a dachshund as well. DP would never agree in a billion years though. And it would more than likely be trodden on by the giant great oafish Weim who is incapable of looking further than about two feet in front of him gun dog, my arse.

MothershipG · 27/09/2014 21:40

I love my Mini Schnauzer but she was supposed to be my easy first dog, not more terrier than a very terrier like thing! She's high maintenance! I kept thinking she'd settle down but she's 8 now and still mad as a box of frogs. Grin

CreepusExplodus · 27/09/2014 22:28

I have a viszla and can' imagine owning any other breed. If I did, it would be a long haired weimaraner. I do like French bulldogs too :)

MistressMouse · 27/09/2014 22:56

I have a goldendoodle, whom I love as much as my human child.
Would love a standard poodle with full poodle clip, and a pharaoh hound.

Wolfiefan · 27/09/2014 23:00

Check out my name!
I have often threatened to trade in DH for an irish wolfhound but the rate of exchange isn't good!
Grin
Discussing birthday and Christmas I've told him I want a Wolfie, a couple of siamese and a pony!!!!!

tabulahrasa · 27/09/2014 23:16

I never said what I have...I have a rottweiler and I don't think I've ever reccomended one because I've never seen anyone say they want a big, stubborn, really active dog with faulty brakes, but if that appeals to anyone, they're pretty clever too, lol.

Wolfie - I have a Siamese, I reccomend them all the time, they're fab.

motmot · 28/09/2014 08:22

I've always fancied a couple of Irish wolfhounds, but only in my fantasy life where I live in a country mansion. In reality, there is a Labrador-shaped hole in my life. Not the most exciting or unusual breed choice but there you go!

Desertrunner · 28/09/2014 10:24

I'd love a cocker spaniel, a pug a dachshund - long haired minature and a King Charles spaniel.

Dogs I've had in my life - chihuahuas, a pug, German shepherd, standard poodle, whippet, springer spaniel.

LimeJellyHead · 28/09/2014 10:32

A Dobermann. Loyal and clever, gorgeous looks and what I presume to be an easy care coat (unlike the Bedlington Terrier, who I always recommend but I had a Beddie so that pick doesn't count for this thread, lol).

I have an old mixed breed girl from rescue who has Dobie colourings.

The best breed is rescued :-)

CherryLips1980 · 28/09/2014 12:45

CreepusExplodus My weim before this giant idiot was a LH. Best dogs ever. Very different in temperament to the SH weim.

KingThistlesMistress · 28/09/2014 13:41

Have had boxers, mastiffs and bulldogs...would love a Newfoundland Smile...it's the jowells!!

RosesandRugby · 28/09/2014 15:21

I have always fancied an English Pointer or a Hungarian Vizsla (smooth).

I currently have a very beautiful but daft, stupid, braindead, English Setter.
He was thrown out of 3 different puppy training groups because he's untrainable. He isn't food orientated or toy orientated so he had no interest in bribery on any level.
He has to stay permanently on the lead as any slight sniff of a rabbit/dog/cat/any other animal and he's gone. He's been missing for 3 days before after chasing a pigeon on the woods. Its not unknown for me in the past to have been late collecting my children from school due to his tendency to disappear.
If you throw him anything to chase he just stares at you with that look of 'you threw it, you get it' and ability to search out and roll in fox poo from miles away is amazing!

Im astounded by the constant comments of them being 'easy to train' and 'intelligent'......my hamster is more intelligent than my setter. My collies I had no problem with whatsoever. Im considering a ban on setters after this one. Grin

kerstina · 30/09/2014 18:11

I have a miniature schnauzer probably would not have chosen this breed myself as was not keen on the look of them. She is lovely though even if more demanding than my own DS was Grin I always wanted a cocker spaniel or a dinky little dog.
