What breed that you DON'T have, would you like to have?

I thought this would be interesting because if you ask someone what breed they recommend, they naturally always say the one they've got! So could you tell me what other breed, that you don't own, have you always quite fancied and why?

For eg I have always had standard poodles and think they are fantastic dogs. However I have always liked the look of Greyhounds because they seem very gentle and loving, elegant, clean and I like the idea of a spurt of intense exercise leading to a long afternoon snooze!

What is your secret breed crush?

I have a Jack Russell (never again!) we do love her but she's just so naughty.

I really love a proper mongrel, not sure that counts as a breed though. Grin

You just don't see them any more though. I was talking to a friend a while ago about how I'd love one but you hardly ever see them. She said that you can still get them but they're massively expensive now and you have to have them imported from Spain.

Costacoffeeplease · 26/09/2014 16:40

I would love an Irish wolfhound, have had GSD, golden retriever and many rescued cross breeds

CatsAreLikeChocolates · 26/09/2014 16:40

Don't have a dog at the mo due to working commitments, but we always used to have BC, springers, labs or mixes thereof. My secret dog crush is a Keeshond; pure canine glamour and not just a pretty face. If only I could talk the DH in to it... sigh

Costacoffeeplease · 26/09/2014 16:40

Lots of proper mongrels here needing rescued......

FlossyMoo · 26/09/2014 16:42

Doberman.

I love their elegance, clean features and coloring.

chipsandpeas · 26/09/2014 16:43

i have a fox terrier cross just now who i love to bits but if i had time money and more space then i would love a old english sheepdog

ThursdayLast · 26/09/2014 16:44

We have a staffy, and I have grown up with Labradors. I have a doggie wish list Smile

Lurcher.
English Bull Terrier
Golden Retriever
Greyhound.
Whippet.

I'm not loads into spaniels, or very little dogs. But I would never entirely right off a breed because I'll always meet one that was me over.

VeryStressedMum · 26/09/2014 16:45

I have a lab, but love bassett hounds they look so cute and dopey Grin . Also love maltese, cute little faces. Also love cavalier king charles very cute walk and bulgy eyes.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 26/09/2014 16:45

I'd love to have either a Wiemeraner or a Hungarian Vizla.

Kendodd · 26/09/2014 16:45

Yes, I have since had a looked at rescue sites and they do have some. I'm not in the market for a dog at them moment, but when I am, that's what I'll be looking for. A proper mongrel, from a long line of mongrels with no identifiable breed evident, that's what I want.

I reckon the imported mongrels, well they were just Spanish street dogs, caught and sold to us for mega bucks.

EvilEmperorZurg · 26/09/2014 16:48

I have a Golden Retriever but if I didn't I'd like
another Golden
a beagle
a westie
a corgi
a cocker spaniel
a flat-coated retriever
does that help Grin??

WanderingTrolley1 · 26/09/2014 16:50

A Giant Schnauzer. Once the little people are packed off to school...

celestialsquirrels · 26/09/2014 16:57

This is so interesting! So the most coveted dogs appear to be GSD, whippet, irish wolfhound/irish setters amongst others...

Must google Manchester terrier.

I must also admit to a hankering for an Airedale (love that face) and also a Borzoi. I can't imagine how impractical a Borzoi would be for anyone who doesn't live in a fully staffed palace on the Russian Steppes... But wow they are beautiful!

I've had a cocker and now have a Springer/ Patterdale cross, but I'd love a retriever, a red setter and a greyhound.

soddinghormones · 26/09/2014 17:23

I always wanted a red setter when I was little as they seemed so glamorous. When we were looking for a Toller litter I got rather taken with the idea of a kooikerhondje but they're even rarer than Tollers - we met one in the park the other day - it felt like we were playing rare breed Top Trumps ...

hoobypickypicky · 26/09/2014 17:32

A Schipperke
A Corgi
A Staffordshire
A Leonberger
A Rottweiler
A Doberman
An Afgan Hound
A Pit Bull
An Irish Wolfhound

We have a Labrador Retriever and a German Shepherd.

iseenodust · 26/09/2014 17:40

We have a big black lab. He's irreplaceable but I would look twice at a Clumber Spaniel.

sandgrown · 26/09/2014 17:40

Got a shih Tzu but would love a Newfoundland

Lovethesea · 26/09/2014 17:45

Looking to get a lurcher soon but deep down I'd love a Wolfhound, Mastiff, Newfoundland, Rhodesian Ridgeback, Great Dane cross.

But it won't fit in the house. Or car. Or food budget.

I would love a Rhodesian Ridgeback but too high strung and big to ever dare have one. I'd also love an Akita but again too big and I don't think i'm a suitable owner.

I've got a rescue jackhuahua and never again with one of these. Very naughty and our one is not very family orientated.

weaselwords · 26/09/2014 18:47

I once met a Russian black terrier in our local park and have been smitten ever since. They seem to be very rare, in this country, so I shall stick with my silly Weimaraners.

PureMorning · 26/09/2014 18:53

errol its the dainty mini dashies i covet. Completely unpractical with my rough on the go family that need robust bomb proof dogs.

I forgot Border terriers. Would love a cheeky border. Theres a man near us with one and it seems like such a fun little thing

paddythepooch · 26/09/2014 18:58

Have a stunning lurcher boy but would like a deerhound, massive black greyhound, beddlington/whippet cross, smooth collie,

Oh and quite like chuggle? Don't like small dogs usually but there's one down the park who looks like a doughty Barbara castle. Love her to bits

Tauriel1 · 26/09/2014 19:02

weasel are they sort of like a Min Pin/ Manchester Terrier? There was a Russian Toy terrier at our local RSPCA a while ago that was like that. I'd never heard of them until then.
