Hip dysplasia - what helps?

Dpup (14 months) has been diagnosed with 'moderate' hip dysplasia in his right hip joint (left hip is perfect). The vet has started him on a dietary supplement and says we need to try to build up his thigh muscles. He loves swimming so I take him as often as I can - anything else?

There's no sign of arthritis on the X-rays, he's never been overweight and we were very careful about not overdoing exercise when he was little so I'm presuming it's mainly genetic. I've let his breeder know so she is aware

Hydrotherapy on the floating treadmill is better than straight swimming for building muscle.
Yes it is genetics sadly.

Thanks Lonecat - will ask my vet about a hydrotherapy referral as that's covered by my insurance
