How do I stop my dog barking at night?

We are having building work done at the moment. This has meant the dog has had to move out of her normal bedroom - at the back of the house - to the sitting room, which is at the front. She now frequently barks at night. We live on a main road, but it is quite quiet at night. However, there is the odd person coming along which will set her off.

I am sleeping through, but she is waking up dh and ds1. How do I stop her? She's stuck in there until the extension is finished and can move back - probably Christmas time.
Help!

she'll likely get used to it..my boys can be a bit barky at the beginning of the summer when i leave all the doors open...but now summer is nearly over they know all the car noises and people's comings and goings and tend to just nosey out the gate to spy if they hear anyone

can you leave a radio on for her...as back ground noise? She'll be less likely to hear outdoor stuff.

or take her to bed?

I forgot to add the bit that she's been in there now for 6 weeks! It was ok over the holidays, but now everyone is back to school it's a little stressful!

I could try the radio. I had considered leaving her on the landing upstairs. The dds are reluctant to shut their doors at night and I can see her landing on their beds at 3:30am!!

We have a night barker. We put 'zombie attack boards' (pieces of cardboard) over the bottom part of the window so he can't see out of the window and look for trouble at night. Also stop him from coming up stairs with a sideways clothes airer which acts as a stair gate.
