ANyone with both dogs & cats - how rough is too rough?

Have a year old Rough Collie (large dog) and a 14 week old Maine Coon kitten - so again large for a cat but still small compared to the dog.
They are getting on really well - almost too well. They enjoy quite rough play - pup will put his jaws round the kitten and mouth him, or put his whole front leg over kittens chest and lick him all over. Kitten doesn't try to get free and in fact if "rescued" goes straight back to the dog and grabs hold of his muzzle, or ears, or paw! It's funny to watch but don't know if I should be allowing it or constantly separating them. They both seem happy!

As long as they're happy. We had a big german shepherd who did the same when we got a kitten and kitten/cat would jump up and hang around the shepherd's neck to play. I never did manage to get it on video. He plays with the other dogs but not like he did with the shepherd, was lovely to watch.

they'll sort themselves out....

it's the other way round in here....small 14 week old pup who adores idiot cat and never knows when enough is enough.
Cat will bash pup, bite pup and shake her ears, but she goes right back for more. She stands over him, sniffs his behind.....he will clean her face and let her clean his ears....just chaos

Once she has had "a claws out" smack she gives over.

THey are such fun to watch. Kitten has taken to launching himself at dog and landing on his back or head. He is desperate to chew dog's antler - dog will sometimes let him have one end while he has the other. The both seem quite happy and I guess kitten will run away if it gets too much.

We have a nearly 2 year old collie x lab and a kitten. They wrestled a lot when kitten first came, just as you describe. They do it less now and the kitten is becoming more aloof as he gets older, he's now nearly 5 months.

I've only just started leaving them together if I go out for shorter periods and I still separate them when I go to work.

Dog has never hurt the kitten as far as I can tell, but kitten has made the dog yelp a couple of times by biting her too hard on the ear!

I've got a 2yo border collie, a 7/8 year old girl cat and 2 5yo old boy cats. They all hate each other Hmm
