Barking over the fence

My garden backs onto a field. A load of horses have been put in, and will be living out year round.

My dog has taken to barking at them to fend them off. Every time she's let out she goes straight to the back fence.

Any ideas of how to stop this irritating habit?

I walked mine past them on lead, saying walk on , praising walk on
It's such fun though seeing a horse gallop off isn't it?Hmm

She's fine with horses if we're out, and doesn't bat an eyelid. These ones I think she's trying to keep out our garden

No wisdom to offer OP just sympathy. I have the same defensive behaviour with my dog when we're leaving the house to go for walks.

My dog is the mildest creature imaginable and would never dream of barking at another dog when we're out and about. But if there's another dog in her street when we leave the house she goes completely crazy. Adopting a sort of 'I'll fight any man in the room' mentality she stands with her back to the house and barks like fury. She seems to get completely wound up and only stops when I manage to drag her away.

Nothing I say or do to try to get her to stop has worked so far - it's been a while - so now I just try to ignore the horrified stares of passers by, apologise to the dog owner if they're in hearing distance and slink off as quickly as possible.

Can only suggest having words and giving lots of treats. Hasn't work so far with my dog but maybe you'll have better luck.

I've got this problem with mine and next doors dogs. I've started putting her on lead and walking her away from the window until she calms down. I've been trying to teach her the quiet command too.
