Grass seed

DDog1 has a grass seed in her toe, I'll be aiming to get her seen by the vets as early as I can tomorrow morning, I've cleaned the area and cut back her toe hair as much as I can. I'm guessing they'll have to sedate and open up the boil to try and locate the offending grass seed. Is there anything else I can do for her? I can attach pictures if they are useful.

Soaking in warn salt water can help the abscess around the seed to point. Otherwise just make sure she is starved in the morning.

And when they sedate her, get the vet to shave in and around her paws. I have cocker spaniels and grass seeds are the devil, my two go to the groomers at the beginning of April to have their paws shaved of all fur, it looks silly but now we get grass seeds in other orrifices instead :)

Thank you both, the swelling seems to have reduced overnight, which has me worrying that it may be on the move. I'm usually really good at keeping her foot hair short myself (she doesn't like the groomers at all) but I hadn't trimmed them in two weeks. Her pad hair was fine, but when I came to cut inbetween I saw the boil. I'll give it a soak in a minute and give the vets a call when they open at 8.

Just thought I'd update, our vet thinks there may be a chance that a grass seed isn't involved at all, he took DDog1 to be examined with the help of a vet nurse, he managed to open the wound a bit further and had a look inbetween her pads, he found a wound that had healed and thinks the cyst developed on her toe from that laceration. She is on antibiotics and painkillers for a few days and then we need to go back on Friday so he can have another look, if he isn't happy with her progress then she will be opened up so they can investigate what is going on. Temperament wise, DDog1 hasn't changed, she is still up for walking and looking for treats. I'll continue to soak the wound after walks.
