Dog Hair

Hello lovelies,

Please can anyone advise me on the best grooming tool for a Dalmatian. The amount of hair she moults is insane.. I really could make a new Dalmatian every half an hour with the volume of hair sheddage.

I use a Zoom Groom which is good..but still the hair keeps on a coming.
Also, advice on best vaccuum cleaner (before they are all banned by the EU regs) and finally, best way to remove the hair from clothes and furniture.

I've got a Furminator. And a Miele Cat and Dog. But what really changed my life was taking all the carpets up downstairs and replacing them with engineered oak. Now I don't even have to wait to make the whole other basset hound out of hair from the hoover - I can watch one assemble itself as if by magic behind every door/at the edge of the room roughly every two days. It was expensive, but I'm trying to convince myself that at least I'm not spending stupid money on Miele hoover bags anymore, since they could fill two a week, no bother.

As for furniture, all mine is covered in throws from Homebase. My house looks as if I've got perpetual decorators in, because the throws are all large white cotton ones, but needs must when you've two hairy dogs...

He He..thank you wildfig. Yes, we cover the furniture and have changed our wardrobes accordingly...light grey clothes hide the fur nicely. I shall give the Furminator a go - sometimes I like to wear black, but I end up looking like I'm covered in desiccated coconut!

We've got a black sharpei, I've finally given in and bought a black sofa!

He's currently moulting so much, I feel as though it's down the back of my throat

I just brush him outside for 5 mins everyday and wait for it to pass, I have also been known to Hoover the dog

Black lab here - if I hoovered every half an hour, there would still be hair everywhere. Last week I jokingly said I would Hoover him. He ran over and let me. Now every time I get the Hoover attachment out, he pushes me to do it

We only have a couple of rugs downstairs and throws on my 'nice' sofa.

I feel your pain!! Dalmatian moult has to be seen to be believed, and there is no let up as it is constant all year round.

We had a Dalamation a few years ago and changed our flooring and our wardrobe to cope with it. After four years wonderfully hair free we recently bought … another dalmatian. She is now 5 months old and the house is slowly but surely getting covered with white hair again as she gets her adult coat. The best grooming tool we’ve found is, funnily enough, a rubber glove although she does like being brushed with a soft baby brush as well!

We have wooden flooring downstairs, throws on the sofa (may end up getting another leather one!), leather chairs and a dyson was the only vacuum we found coped last time. And of course a vast selection of lint removers, bristle brushes and rubber brushes to try to look half decent for work. The most annoying part is their hair has a tiny barb on the end which makes it stick to fabric (we’ve looked under a magnifying glass) and we've found the rubber brush very good at getting them off.

But – I wouldn’t be without her!
