Prunes- are they toxic to dogs?

Puppy has yet again managed to steal something, this time some prunes, think she ate one or two. I know raisins are toxic to dogs, but prunes?

No they can't eat prunes - better call the poison unit again!

Didn't see your message until now, worked out she had probably eaten one prune, she didn't see the vet this time but is fine. So is it any dried fruit that is a problem? My old dog used to eat fruit cake on occasion and was fine, but I understand it can vary from dog to dog? Am worried there might be something else that is toxic to dogs that I don't know about! Several neighbours seemed surprised that we had taken her to the vet after a few raisins, they had no idea, so I wonder what I might not know?
She is a terrible thief and gets taller by the week, it is easy to leave something accidentally within her reach, esp as my last dog didn't steal off tables or counters . Dog before him was very naughty. stole sponges from the body shop (on a low shelf, he loved sponges), and several items from Paula Yates' handbag.

Some dogs can eat grapes and raisins, some can't. It is a bit like Russian Roulette... you just don't know until it is too late. So if a dog eats those things, going straight to the vet is definitely the right thing to do. Even just a raisin or two can kill a dog.

With fruit it is often the pips/stones that can be the issue, poisons wise, because many contain cyanide.

I should add that no-one knew about dogs and raisins when my old dogs were scoffing fruit cake, I wasn't just a careless owner! My first dog stole grapes from the fruit bowl, again no problems, luckily. Thanks for the list of food to avoid, it is helpful to know when to whizz off to the vet if a dog has managed to get hold of something and when not to worry.

Absolutely. We used to give one of our dogs grapes as a healthy, low fat treat. Had no idea back then. Scary, hey. We just got lucky... he was not one of the dogs that are affected by them.

My puppy ate a box of raisins a couple of weeks ago. I rang emergency vet (it happened at 10pm ish) and vet said making him sick could cause problems in it itself so just leave him be and see how he is. I stayed up till 1am with him and he was fine. He also eats wild mushrooms if I can't catch him in time and he's still here to tell the tale. I'm hoping as he grows up that he won't be as bad. My vet said he has never seen a dog poisoned by chocolate either and he has heard of cyanide poisoning but never seen a case of that either. My last dog ate a fat burner pill and he was also fine.

Yes my dogs are the whole contents of the fridge once (in the 90s) and didn't even need a vet visit! (I needed wine)
I am over vigilant now I think but better to be safe
