He's an outdoor dog, heard him crying shortly before 6am and went out to find him lying down.. Knew right away it wasn't good. He had totally lost the use of his hindquarters. Poor boy was due to turn 10 next month.
I lifted him into the garage and wrapped him in a towel and sat with him until 9am having a cry, a chat and telling him wonderful he was. He hated the kitchen and would never come inside because he couldn't stand skidding around on the tiled floor. Makes me smile thinking of that actually!
Totally out of the blue, such a shock. He was hopping about and dancing on his hind legs as usual for his supper last night at 10.30pm.
I've had a bad run of luck with pets lately - my first and much wanted bichon pup died at 14 weeks old due to a heart problem and my little fluffy cat was hit by a car last year. Hopefully that's my run of bad luck over for a while and I can continue to enjoy my two little fluffy bichons who astounded me this morning by knowing there was something wrong - they were little superstars and have been clinging to me since I got home.
To everyone out there suffering the loss of a dear friend, have a hug on me.
