We travel to france this week and taking our shih tzu cross with us. As advised by my vet I administered Advantix however the side effects are weird. Shaking her head constantly, unable to settle. Jumping as if her skin is irritating her. This is 48 hours after administering the dose. I've googled side effects & read some horror stories on American websites so thought I so thought I should check here.

I have just emailed my vets. I paid £27 for a pack of four and I'm certainly not going to use it again after this. So hoping for some sort of refund. But I doubt I will receive anything...:(

Anyway hoping to get some sleep now, doggie has settled a little (I'm on the sofa keeping an eye on her)

So dogs are very irritated by certain spot ons in particular those in alcohol carriers I have seen the effects you describe with Advantix, Advocate and Frontline.
It might be worth considering either of the oral treatments Bravecto or Nexguard.

Lonecat - what would you recommend for a medium-length coat dog needing flea, tick and lungworm prevention (all prevalent here) - at the moment he's having both advocate and advantix but it does seem like a lot and he's always a bit itchy after it's been put on

In my practice which has high tick levels, a third of ticks carry Lyme disease and lungworm we recommend Bravecto tablet for fleas and ticks very three months and milbemax tablet every month for lungworm, roundworm and tapeworm.
