I was walking my little Jack Russell, on a lead, in our village with my friend and her toddler. As we walked past a house a Labrador jumped over the gate and attacked my dogSad

The whole thing was horrible, my poor little dog was squealing so much, but trying to protect herself. She slipped her lead and ran away but the dog followed her, bit Her several times but thankfully stopped just as quickly as it started.

The elderly house owners were very apologetic, it isn't actually their dog, they are looking after it for their DIL who was at her dads funeral! They've offered to pay the vets bill.

She's been bitten in 3 places, was very very stressed at the vets- but has been fine this evening.

I just wanted to get it off my chest really and I want to make sure this dog never does this kind of thing again. But I don't know if I can actually do anything. Has anyone got any suggestions?

You should certainly report it to the police. I do feel a bit for the owner that was at a funeral but it could have been far worse and I think it's essential that any attacks are reported. Not sure they'll do anything immediately but they would have a duty to investigate I think.

Oh you poor thing. I hope your little dog is ok. Not sure of the legalities but hopefully the owners will take steps to ensure it doesn't happen again. Although technically they didn't have the dog under control. Depends if you want to persue it. Maybe see how the owner acts.

It might be worth checking if the dog is insured as they may well be able to cover the vets bill

Thank you for answering. I will go and speak to the house owners tomorrow and see what they say. I do think ill report it though as it was so unprovoked. The dog is dangerousSad

At the time my friend and I just rushed home and off I went to the vets. It's only since Ive sat down and started to think about it that I realise how awful it was but also how much worse it could have been. My friend scooped up her dd and went in the opposite direction thankfully, so the liittle girl disnt see too much.

Yes I also think you need to report it and speak to the owners again.

It needs to be on record somehow that this dog is dangerous. These people need to know that they are not capable of looking after this dog and the dog's owner needs to know that it's dangerous and cannot be left there anymore.

Otherwise come the next time it'll just happen again.

Hope your poor little dog is ok. And poor you, what a horrible shock. Brew

Thank you Mrs.

I will definitely peruse it. Little dog has gone off to her bed after snuggling with me on the sofa. She usually waits for us to go to bed, so she must be tired, poor thing. She's been extra spoilt tonight though. Some bits of chicken and cheese (with her antibiotics mixed in, but don't tell her!)
