URGENT PLEA - re-homing a dog

Hello
I am putting our a plea for a wonderful friend who is desperately trying to re-home her beautiful, placid 2 year old staffy.
Without going into too much detail (her idiot DH running off with a younger model and leaving her with the house about to be repossessed because he hasn't been paying the mortgage) she is moving away from here to live with her elderly mum - she is taking her Jack Russell but due to her own poor health and her elderly mother she cannot take both dogs.
Her 'D'H is unlikely to be bothered with sorting out care for Sophie and my friend is terrified that she will have to take her to the RSPCA and the inevitable will happen.
Sophie is great on and off the lead - quiet inside the house, and is brilliant with both people and other dogs.
I know this isn't the best place to try to re-home a dog but my friend has to leave tomorrow and I can't take Sophie due to my own circumstances.
Please if anyone can help or knows what we can do please let me know.

Is there a local Staffie rescue she could try? Not all animal charities put unwanted animals down. She sounds very rehomable...
Does she have any friends with dogs who could take her temporarily? Could she take her to her mum's temporarily?

Thank you for replying - I will have a look at staffy rescues locally. There isn't anyone we know who can take her and sadly she just can't take her with her, even short term.

Where is Sophie and your friend based? Do you know how she copes being left alone?

Somerset. My friend works part time so Sophie is used to being able to roam around the house (causing no damage) for a few hours a day - but she also is happy in her crate.
