Hello!
We adopted a 'rescue' lurcher two years ago. We call him a rescue although that isn't quite correct - he came from family who had decided that he was no longer convenient and were going to advertise him on Facebook.
We decided to take him even though we weren't sure that we could have a dog, because we thought at least if it didn't work out we could make sure he was re-homed properly.
Anyway, it worked out brilliantly! We love having him and he has gone from an untrained and unsocialised dog to a happy and content little soul. We still go to dog training once a week (recently got Kennel Club Good Citizen Gold!) and fun agility most weekends.
My partner and I have decided that now would be a good time to get a second dog. We want an adult lurcher - they seem to suit us well, and our current dog is always keen to play/run with other lurchers when we see them. He is now 9 years old, but still quite puppy-like at times!
For background, we both work full time, but we have a lady who comes in daily for a few hours. She cleans (so is around the house with the dog for company) and then he gets taken out for a good walk. In addition to this we walk him in the morning before work and then again in the evening - we are very fortunate to live backing on to woods and heathland so lovely walks. Any new dog would hopefully fit in to this existing routine - so a good mix of exercise and company, but also some alone time most days so we need to try and make sure we find a dog that doesn't get anxious if left alone.
We recently met someone who had adopted a greyhound from Greyhound Rescue West of England (GRWE). Does anyone know this rescue? I've looked on the website and they seem reputable. Are there any other rescues that people could recommend? We live in Surrey, near to Berkshire, but it's not a problem to travel.
Thanks!
