Should I send dog to daycare on friday?

Something is happening on Friday and I want to go but will be gone most of the day and I can't leave dog that long.

Dog loves daycare but he will have to walk there (about 20 minutes) and then be there all day and I'm not sure he will be ok. His painkiller (see other thread) dose got halved on monday due to bad side effects and I'm not sure the current dose is enough (too soon to really tell).

I trust the people there completely but my dog doesn't stop ever so I know he will come home worse for wear.

What should I do?

I've just realised that this isn't something that should be a concern when the dog in question is a 5 year old border collie!

Plus I have someone to look after him I'm just not sure he is well enough to go.

I have decided that the dog is going to daycare tomorrow. He will have lots of fun and the people there will watch him closely and give him his medication.

I knew my dog wasn't doing well but it's been a bit of a shock to realise that I was seriously considering not going out because I think he might suffer playing with other dogs.

Aw Ephendra I love owners like you. I do a doggy daycare and am used to clients having concerns about their dogs. If one of my charges is feeling under the weather I usually let them have a play with their friends then take them into another room for cuddles and then a wee sleep or put them the other side of the doggy gate so they can see their friends but rest without being pestered.

Is he arthritic? I use a wee heat mat for any of my old pups and it's usually a fight as to who can get on it first. Heat mats really help. My own two have arthritis and you can see how much they benefit from it, though they also fight to be the first onto my husband's heated throw! Hope your dog feels better.

He has spent quite a bit of time in daycare (I volunteer there) and he loves it. He wouldn't notice a heat mat as daycare is not for staying still. Ever. He will be kept in a smaller area with a few friends so that he doesn't run about too much.

I only have a small day care (max 10) and they run around as if on speed until I or my husband sit down for a coffee then they all pile on for a cuddle. Dog blanket anyone?

My collie wont even stop for a cuddle, he is so busy policing other dogs fun or trying to get someone to throw a toy (this doesn't happen because it's bad for him), or just playing to bother.

Haha. Typical Collie, they feel the need to be in charge of other dogs. I think it's that innate herding instinct. I used to walk one and he spent the whole walk fretting about the smaller dogs (usually 5) and rounding them up. He'd circle the other dogs, with me in the middle. Was so cute.
