How can I get my dog prepared for the arrival of a baby

I am currently 12 weeks pregnant do have a while to do any necessary training. We have a 5 year old rescue staffordshire bull terrier. At the moment it's only her me and my husband at home. She's great with children but does struggle around other dogs due to previous mistreatment. My only concern is when we first get him from work/ shopping etc she gets very excitable and jumps up I'm worried that her doing this with a baby coming rough the door is a recipe for disaster. I have no concerns with heron any other way it's purely just over excitement she's around my niece who us 2 years old now and is absolutely great.

Our Black lab gets vv excited when we come home. She doesn't jump up but lots of barking and milling about. Ds2 (7mo) is still in the car seat so pretty much protected, however we do boss her back as quickly as we can or put her in her outside run if we are coming back with DS1s friends (he is 3.5) and then let her out once they are inside.
Basically you will have newborn in a car seat initially and then you manage the situation either by where she is when you come in or how you manage her.

Once inside - make sure your dog can "escape" from the baby esp if it cries and obviously make sure they are never alone. dS2 is now starting the dog obsession phase and tries to get to ours in his walker all the time. She has been vv good with DS1 - patient etc, but we never let ds1 play with her without one of us being there next to them the whole time. Just not worth it or fair for either of them.

When I was pregnant with my first child, Sara I used a book called Tell Your Dog You're Pregnant: An essential guide for dog owners who are expecting a baby. It was really helpful and came with a baby sounds and toy noises. Max (my fur child!) took some time to get used to the sounds but the book helped on how to do it. It gave me advice on what changes will occur and how to prepare my Max for them. It also talked about the causes for aggression and why it might occur and how to avoid it. It is written by a vet behaviorist too so it cover health issues as well - I got it from www.babyandpet.com.au or Amazon too i guess - mayb that will help you too?!
