pup scratching his ear

Hi my pup is constantly scratching his ear today, he is also shaking his head. There is no smell or discharge. I will make him an appointment at vets first thing in the morning but in the mean time can I do anything for him at home

I'm a vet. Sudden onset scratching of one ear only could easily be a foreign body in the ear, we see loads of problems with grass seeds finding their way into ears at this time of year. My advice would be to try to get him to the vets as early as possible tomorrow, and not to give him breakfast in case it is a foreign body and they need to sedate him to take it out. And don't put anything down the ear yourself! Other than that, there's not much you can safely do until his ear has been looked at, unfortunately.

Thank you for the advice, I will phone vet first thing in morning. I feel bad for him because every time he scratches he cries

My first thought was a grass seed too
I always look afterwards, so if it's nothing maybe try to do this anywsy?
