Dog won't drink

My lovely little cairn terrier will not drink out of his water bowl. Puddles, ponds, paddling pools, hosepipe are all acceptable but not his bowl. It is baking here today and he's happily drinking out of the kids pool.

Does it matter - can I assume he getting enough from other sources, even if it's not clean?

He I a mix of wet an dry food and we've started adding water to his dinner as well.

Assuming it's not that particular bowl he dislikes, you could try what I've seen suggested for cats that are fussy not fond of their water bowl. You're supposed to put out 3 different water sources in different places. You could put water in a shallow baking dish/deep saucer, some in one of those oversized coffee mugs and some in his bowl. It might be that he prefers one shape or it might be that he likes variety but either way he's more likely to drink.

My weimaraner bitch does this. Will slurp any amount of filthy swamp, but seems to think I'm poisoning her from her water bowl. She seems ok, despite this.

I have one that will not drink from a metal bowl

One that will not drink if the bowl is too full (Surface has to be at least an inch from rim)

And one who will drink from anything so long as it is disgusting and smelly and guaranteed to give her the trots.

I like havantguards's suggestions about variety

My dog prefers puddle water. He'll walk past a fresh bowl of tap water in favour if the manly contents if a bucket at the end of the garden. He's made it to 10 years if age so it can't be doing him any harm.

Thanks all. I left out a random assortment of containers and he has happily drunk from a Chinese take away carton (maybe left over Chinese taste?!). I do t care what he drinks out of as long as he drinks enough - did have to draw the line at DTs potty today though.
