Big lump on dog's side, near rib cage :(

Sorry for the bombardment of threads, but this isn't concerning the pup for once!

Big dog has got a lump, kind of at the back of her rib cage, but before her leg, if that makes any sense. It's large and hard and doesn't move when I press it. She's very hairy at the minute, so you can't see it, but it must've come up pretty quickly as I noticed it when brushing her, so would've noticed when I last gave her a good brush. She doesn't seem to be in any pain with it, but she has limped on that leg a couple of times in the last few days (only for a few seconds after she's been laying down for a long time) but she does tend to get a little stiff, and she's very bouncy and active when on walks, so I thought maybe she'd just knocked it whilst chasing her ball or something.

She's at the vets on Monday for her booster vac, but should I take her before to get this lump looked at? It's really worrying me :( but it doesn't seem to be bothering her at all. Not sure whether to just keep an eye on it for a day or two and see if it gets bigger, or whether to take her down tomorrow morning.

I've got her booked in at the vets later, can't take the chance of waiting. I've googled and the lump is right where her large intensive sits so I'm worried about a blockage or something. Fingers crossed it's nothing serious :(

It might be a limpoma (fatty lump) my dog has one on her chest, they don't operate unless it's obstructing the dog, she got a fine needle biopsy, she was under a general for something else at the time but I think they can do it while they are still awake like taking blood.

The lump is rock hard though, not soft and squishy, which is what is worrying. It's really big as well; goodness knows how I didn't see it before now :(

Well vet thinks it's either a haematoma caused by her banging herself, or a tumour :( She's got a sky high temperature, so they won't put her under to do X-rays etc until she's had a course of anti-b's so I've come away with those, plus some metacam, and I'm £74 worse off! Taking her back on Monday and they'll decide what to do then. It's obviously giving her some grief as she nipped me and the vet when we were touching it :( which she's never, ever done before. Poor girl :(

We are just coming out the stress of our dog having her eye removed due to a tumour, I really do know how you are feeling, I hope your dog is going to be just fine and you have insurance

She's collie x poodle. I'm worrying because I had a border collie as a teenager who had exactly these symptoms and turned out he had an inoperable tumour :(

Thankfully, yes, I have insurance! Just rung them to send a claim for through to the vets in anticipation, because whatever the outcome, she's going to need an anaesthetic and X-rays so it's going to be a few hundred quid at least.

How is your lady and her lump doing?

Lump is still there and she's still grumpy :( We're back at the vets tomorrow.

She's seemed a bit brighter today; she's been playing with the pup, but she gets very growly with him if he goes near the lump. I think the fact it hurts is good news isn't it? Tumours are normally painless I think. It's not shrunk at all though, but no bigger either.

Well her temperature has gone but the lump is still there. Vet wants to keep her on antibiotics for a week and see what happens then look at doing an ultrasound if it hasn't improved, as he can't rule out a tumour but might also be an infected cut or bite.

Well the positive I can get from this is the vet isn't moving things quickly to get the lump removed, when we took our dog a few weeks ago with a suspected tumour they moved very quickly to get it removed and and a biopsy done, the temp coming down has to be good too.

Yes I keep telling myself it's looking good as the vets aren't in a hurry to do anything. It's just such a worry not knowing.

We're back tomorrow. The lump seems to have shrunk :) so looking like it's probably an injury which is a huge relief! She's so much better in herself these last few days as well; wanting to chase the ball again when on walks, which she's not shown any interest in for a few weeks. I'm hopeful of good news at the vets tomorrow :)

Wow! So glad she seems to be getting better, I don't think sinister lumps would shrink, but I know nothing medical!!

Wonder what she done though...curiosity would get the better of me but there is probably no way of ever knowing!

I have no idea! She bombs downstairs when the postie comes, so could've fallen maybe, or possibly whilst trying to steal bread off the work surface... She's a fairly agile mutt when she wants to be!!

They're happy that it was an injury or something that got infected :) another week of antibiotics and they've discharged her which is a relief!

Phew you must be so relieved, I swear dogs were sent just to worry us!!
