Raw diet for golden retreiver puppy?

Ohheavens · 24/06/2014 10:58

New puppy arrived at the weekend, he is adorable.
But so much conflicting advice about feeding.
We are trying feeding him with mainly raw food at the moment. The butcher has given us lots of meat (free) but it lookks really fatty and poor quality. Is this ok?
Many thanks in advance

You need to research this properly to make sure he's getting all he needs for healthy growth etc. Join Raw Feeding UK on Facebook - tons of files, advice, chat about it.

I second LadyTurmoil. It is a fabulous way to feed with lots of benefits but has to be done properly. Arm yourself with lots of info. The above page is great.

If you don't want to go down the DIY raw feeding route then there are lots of complete raw suppliers around. I have used Natural Instincts complete raw food since my dog was eight weeks old and he's thriving on it.

Dogs need a good good mix of meat, bone, offal and (depending on which model you follow) fruit, veg, nuts and seeds. A bag of butcher meat can be used but wouldn't make a whole balanced meal. Read up but I would advise using a complete raw to start with. A puppy is enough work without trying to learn and prepare a balanced raw diet as well.
