How can I make him pee?

FizzyMakeFeelNice · 31/05/2014 10:53

My poor little boy was castrated yesterday and hasn't had a wee since.

Obviously he is in discomfort, and I think the lack of peeing won't be helping, but is up to date with pain meds and I don't know what else to do.

Anyone got any tips?

Has he actually taken enough fluid to need a wee?

FizzyMakeFeelNice · 31/05/2014 11:28

I think so, I know for sure he has eaten, honestly can't 100% say he has drunk anything. But it has been over 24 hours, so am a bit concerned.

Last night when I took him for a short walk he went to cock his leg but then cried and changed his mind :-/

I feel so guilty and sad for him, but it had to be done Sad

Oh Sad

Anywhere close by you don't usually take him?
New smells may tempt a few drops?

I know I don't usually go as normal after a ga, but not sure if it's the same for dogs.

FizzyMakeFeelNice · 31/05/2014 11:44

That's a good idea, thank you. Luckily there are loads of parks around me, so I can choose one we haven't been to for a while.

The GA did knock him for six, he was very dopey yesterday, but today he seems a bit more normal and is acting like he needs to go but is scared it will hurt. I can tell for definite he hasn't been as we have a paved garden.

Thanks for your help, will update later.

Also, some dry dog biscuits should encourage him to drink I would think?

FizzyMakeFeelNice · 31/05/2014 11:49

i gave him Cesar last night, which he ate. He has biscuits available at all times but isn't eating them today, grrr!

That's made me think though... I bet he'd eat some cat biscuits!

Not when you want him to!

FizzyMakeFeelNice · 31/05/2014 12:11

Well he had some dreamies, still no water though. Am getting ready to take him out now.

I've put a couple of pics up on my profile so you can see the patient.

Oh he is cute!

daisydotandgertie · 31/05/2014 12:21

Give the vet a quick ring before they shut for the day and see what they say. He may need more pain meds perhaps.

They will be happy to speak with you about it. Better now than once they're on emergency cover!

FizzyMakeFeelNice · 31/05/2014 12:34

Really? I was thinking it was normal cos of where the op was? I'll call them now. Would extra meds cost extra? Money's a bit tight, but we have some set aside for things like this.

Vet's closed. Think I'll walk him and see if he goes before calling OOH vets.

OP posts:
Atbeckandcall · 31/05/2014 12:47

Please don't walk him far!!!!!!! Just for 5 minutes because he could split the sutures.

This isn't normal for a post OP castration, call the ooh vets please.

Poor pooch, hope he's better soon

FizzyMakeFeelNice · 31/05/2014 12:51

Oh I know, short walks at the mo. I just want him to do a wee!

The vets website says there should be a vet onsite til 4pm on Saturdays. There's a park opposite the vets so I will pop to the park then to the vets.

How does the incision site look?

And no off lead Wink

fanoftheinvisibleman · 31/05/2014 13:08

I'd definitely want the vet to check. When we collected ours there were 2 being collected at the same time, one piddled up the side of the desk Grin and ours did it the second we got outside. It can't hurt to get advice.

FizzyMakeFeelNice · 31/05/2014 13:44

He is fine. I think he has issues with peeing wearing the buster collar. As soon as it was off he was peeing like a racehorse. He pooed too so all good.

Incision site looks fine, the cone of shame has to be on as much as possible though, as he won't leave it alone otherwise.

Thanks for the advice everybody :)

Thats great! I was lucky that ours managed without a cone and left his stitches alone.

Atbeckandcall · 31/05/2014 17:11

That's great news. Poor lampshade pooch!

BellaVita · 31/05/2014 17:22

Scary isn't it.

My pug was spayed on Thursday. We brought her home in the afternoon and she didn't do a wee until about 10pm ish and she hadn't drunk or eaten anything at all.

She didn't do a poo until this morning, but once she did I felt relieved.

She has got a tshirt to wear for the next two weeks instead of a lampshade.

How can I make him pee?
WeAllHaveWings · 31/05/2014 18:18

we got our pup neutered a couple of months back and took the cone off during the day and on walks, but someone had to stay close to him all the time to stop any licking. after day 3 he stopped trying to lick and the only time he had it on was at night until day 10 (we got a comfy cone for nights).

he was totally miserable with the cone on, and much happier without, so we just gave up doing anything other than pup watch for a couple of days.

FizzyMakeFeelNice · 31/05/2014 20:16

Thanks everyone. I have to keep the cone on as I'm finding it impossible to watch him constantly. Taking him for short pee runs (walking obvs) every 2 hours without the cone. If I leave him to go in the garden he's not going. If I let him in the garden without the cone he just goes for his stitches. :/

Love the t-shirt Bella :)

Your boy is so damned gorgeous Fizzy Grin.

Did they give you pain relief to bring home from the vets?

We came home with nothing... Apart from £185 lighter in my purse!

FizzyMakeFeelNice · 31/05/2014 22:24

He is very cute, even more so now he looks so pitiful!

Yep, half a tablet twice a day, and 60 cheaper than yours!!
