Poorly old dog

We have 2 Weims, 8 and 12.
The oldest has been getting "old" for a while, he has cataracts and doggy Alzheimer's, but still toddles around and eats very well.
He had his dinner last night and bolted it as always.
Later on he was sick, just a couple of handfuls, but didn't seem particularly poorly.
He went to bed with us, but this morning didn't want to get up (normally he charges downstairs for his breakfast).
When I tried to get him up, he was very wobbly, and he weed when he came down the stairs.
He had a drink, then put himself back to bed on the lounge floor, where he has stayed all day.
I spoke to the vet before afternoon surgery, and he's going in for evening surgery.
I'm really worried.
Please tell me it's not the end?

Sorry to hear that OP. RIP Zen and hope his Weim friend is coping OK.

Luccadog isn't doing too well, he's jumping and barkingat the sslightest noise, not so good when the house three doors down has the builders in.
DW had to go to work, how she drove there, she doesn't know.
Hopefully, she can leave early.

Its so difficult for you and will be difficult for lucadog :( can the two of you take him for a lovely walk tomorrow, somewhere new? or somewhere you used to take all the dogs? maybe stop off for some coffee somewhere nice? When i lost my old dog, i was like you two, devestated - we couldn't stay in the house the next day, DP had to take the day off work as i was inconsolable but we made ourselves go out and look around the shops for a nice photo album to put his pictures in. I didn't want to hide him away so bought a picture frame and am looking at three lovely picutres from a day that i remember so well, us all having a naughty day off work and going for a long walk. Ten years later i still cry looking at that picture but it mostly brings happy memories.

Sorry about your dog.

He has such a lovely face.

Lemingaround, thank you so much for your lovely ideas.
DW is home, she's crashed out. I'm cooking dinner.
It's almost like she has put the grieving process on hold.
She now has to go through it.
Thanks again.

What a gorgeous lad he was. Absolutely gorgeous and looks so happy.

Oh Lucca just logged back on and saw this. So very sorry you lost your handsome lad. It is so heartbreaking I know. RIP Zen, run free at rainbow bridge in the sunshine xx

So sorry for your loss. It's devastating to lose a much loved pet.
I lost my girl to tumors in March and it was one of the worst days of my life.
Cat was most upset too.
3 months on I have a lovely puppy who is hard work but adorable.
Cat didn't like him at all......so we bought him a kitten!
Insanity is now restored to my home.
Old girl will never be forgotten.

desertmum · 02/06/2014 08:34

so sorry to read this - hope you and your other dog are doing better today

luccamum · 04/06/2014 07:53

Thank you for all your good wishes.
The weekend was crap, we cried, and tried to do all the stuff you need to do on a weekend.
DW was totally bereft. Never seen her so upset.
Had to go back to work on Monday, was really worried about Luccadog, he had been really clingy over the weekend.
Got home on Monday evening to a lovely bouquet of flowers from the lady at More Than pet insurance, that I howled down the phone at on Thursday evening.
Never met her, never will, but she took the time to send me flowers.
Now that's customer service.
We will keep going day to day.
Zens ashes should be ready this week.
