It's been 10 days since second set of Clover's jabs and it's painful!
We have, a few times, carried her down to the village, so she can still 'experience stuff'.
We can't do it for more than 10 mins as she struggles and just wants to get down to explore..
Our vets say their protocol is 14 days after the 2nd jabs until she is allowed out. I do get that in the scheme if things it's not long but we are all climbing the walls!
Is it really too dodgy to take her out now? I understand it's parvo they are most concerned about..
Aggh it's so hard as she is itching to get on with life- we got her at 9 weeks and jabbed her straight away, so she's 12 weeks now..

Meant to add that it seems other vet practices seem to vary with the timescale after jabs..

Mmm does seem a bit long,I'm sure we only waited a week after second jabs,I guess you've just got to go along with what the vet says.

catbus · 24/05/2014 11:40

That's the thing- when I phoned they said that was just their 'rules'. On Googling UK vet sites, some of them seem to say just a few days??
I know it's not long to wait in the scheme of things, but this wee Collie has a lot she wants to be getting on with- she's had a lot of different experiences just from what's going on over our garden gate etc, but carrying her now is impossible because she struggles so much to get down!!

Our vet said 1 week after 2nd jabs.

catbus · 24/05/2014 12:06

My vet said 10 days after second jabs. I took ours out on day 5. She's been fine she's 13 weeks now had her since 7 weeks.

CandiceMariePratt · 24/05/2014 12:49

My pup had his 2nd jab last week and the vet said it was supposed to be 2 weeks before they can go out. She said if was her dog she would let them out after a week.

catbus · 24/05/2014 13:35

Thanks all Smile
Just took her round the block- 5 min walk that took 20 Grin

Different brands of immunisation have different times.

lepetitchienbrun · 24/05/2014 17:24

Ours was on a particular brand of vaccine that was given at 12 weeks and we were then told to wait two more weeks. Practically the whole socialisation period gone and we both went quite crazy. I didn't wait the whole two weeks if I'm honest but was careful where we took him until the fortnight was up.

My vet wouldn't give puppy his first jab till 12 weeks. Then 2nd at 14 weeks and 2 weeks after that till he can go out.
He will be 16 weeks old by then. Since 11 weeks he has been too heavy and wriggly for me to carry anywhere. Really struggling with socialisation.

catbus · 24/05/2014 20:28

Blimey, Duchess, that is a bind!
Yes, exactly, the struggling- it's not just that, it's her nipping at your face/body in excitement to get down. Not possible when I have my kids with me also.
I wouldn't cope very well if it was that long away to be able to go out properly- why would they only jab so late?

I have no idea. I have used this vet for years with my previous dog and always trusted him.
It was the receptionist DH spoke with to make the appointment then a locum for 1st injection. We will see him on monday for 2nd injection and speak with him then.

ARightOldPickle · 24/05/2014 22:06

Counting down the days here too! Molly had second jabs this morning and we can take her out in a week's time, can't wait as she is getting quite heavy now (dalmatian). She's 10 weeks, so 11 when she can go out, can't imagine having to wait until 16 weeks!
