Best way to treat sore eye?

Dpup has managed to pick up an eye infection - typically at the beginning of a bank holiday weekend

I can't get an appointment at the vet this morning and really don't want to see the out of hours vet for something so minor

I've been bathing the affected eye with cooled boiled water - in lieu of fucithalmic acid is there anything else I can do?

Cold tea, very old fashioned, but the tannins in it have an anti-inflammatory effect. The stronger the tea the more tannins.
