Long story, very short, I suspect that my 7 month old Border Collie girl has hip dysplasia in her right hip for sure and possibly left hip too. Her gait is similar to an older rescue Border Collie of mine who had shocking hip scores and severe dysplasia.
I am taking vet advice - she's booked in to see my vet on Wednesday next week to discuss X-rays and hip scoring, but I just want to be armed with information before I go, as the results affect what we do with her.
She was destined to be a trials dog and not be spayed yet (DH wants her to have pups in a couple of years), but if she has dysplasia, we'll be spaying asap as a) we have entire dogs and there is no way I'd breed a dog with hip dysplasia and b) we don't know if she'd stand up to heavy sheep work, so would train her differently to the way we are currently planning. it also means she would have to ride the quad bike more instead of running, which will annoy our womble collie
So my questions for those who can advise, if I may:
What numbers should I be looking for in a hip score as "healthy" hips?
What should I ask my vet to examine? I know her hips will be x-rayed, but what are the likely senarios regarding treatment? Google is not my friend with this, as there is so much information I am just becoming confused.
Thanks
