Thanks Giles, he is cute, but very norty! He had a blast opening that box to find his new treat ball - luckily all the destruction was confined to recyclable postage products! 
He was called Pip because he was so little and fragile when we got him (rescue pup that was very ill to begin with). Now he's a hulking great teenager approaching 28" to the shoulder. 
I feel a bit daft shouting "Pip!" in the park these days!
ggirl, I've met Pip's of both sexes. I think it suits either. Aunty Mabel's dog in CBeebies Come Outside was a female Pippin.
