Exercise for a ridgeback?

I met a ridgeback owner today who told me that his dog only needed 40 minutes of walking a day. I was surprised - is that right? I have never had a dog so don't have any experience.

The guy seemed reasonable and the dog looked healthy and sane. For some reason I thought they were like Border Collies.

They look nothing like them Wink

On very large breeds they don't need much.

Especially if that 40 minutes is of pure running/chasing etc.

40 minutes on the lead pottering about town isn't enough

Ridgebacks are notoriously lazy. Ours have about an hour a day but then spend the rest of the day asleep. We live in the middle of a large field and after a quick run around once or twice a day; they retire for a lie down.

Very lazy dogs! But lovely soppy sods.

But then I used to walk with a ridgeback who needed at least 2 hours a day to remain sane...so it must depend on the dog.

Ah thanks. I think I may have been influenced by some shouting over on AIBU. It seemed like a nice dog, it was happy to lie outside the post office and wait for its owner.
