Dog pooing in house overnight

We have a 3 yr old cavalier (a rescue from 18 mths if that matters) who is absolutely lovely.

However, from time to time she poos at night in the lounge. This morning is the 2 time in a couple of days.

Her normal routine is to wake up (!) go outside or not (she has a lie in sometimes) where she will toilet & then goes on the school run. Normally does a wee & pop over the park.

She is fed raw chicken wing when back from walk & in the evening, she has wainwrights wet food & a handful of dry, which she takes or leaves. After school pickup she has a 'treat' like fish4dogs fish stick, tripe stick or dentastix.

I don't think she is over fed, (not overweight) so I'm wondering if I'm getting the timing wrong with tea- time feed ? What's the ideal time to feed ? ð??¶

My 3 year old pug does this, although it's in the kitchen as she's shut in there overnight.

There's no rhyme or reason to it. I did look it up and apparantly some breeds of dog are never 100% reliably house trained! and pugs are one of them.

I'm used to it now though it still pisses me off I never show it. Just ignore it till next time it happens.

I guess it happens maybe once every few weeks for a couple of days.

I feed at 9am and 4 pm. No treats.

Our 2 dogs are fed at 8am and 4pm, no treats. If they eat later than 4pm one of them wakes us v early to go out for a poo.

Your problem might be mixing wet and dry food I her evening meal. The dry digests at a much slower rate and it's generally not a good idea to mix them for this reason. It will cause problems for some dogs. I would choose one and stick to it. Wet is better if you are also feeding raw as the digestion times are more similar.

Oh and I would try to avoid feeding evening meals later than 6pm.

Ok, that's great thanks - she's not that keen on the dry kibble & almost finished the bag, so will stick to wet (assume have to give her a bit more now ?) & feed at 4pm

She loves her after walk afternoon treat though.

Have you ever crated her? Pizpup started pooing on the doormat in the early hours and we started putting him back in his crate overnight. He goes out last thing for a wee/poo and sleeps quite comfortably until we get up at 7am - I think he just had a bit of an urge, found a convenient spot and went, whereas in the crate he is motivated to wait! I'd be happy to take him out in the night if he fussed and needed it but he never does!

Both GirlDog and BoyDog do this if they eat too much. When we first got them they were crapping around the clock. Then we realised that the portion size on their food was per day, not per meal, and that they were using the fact that we were being far too soft with them to beg for more.

Now they are on a strict 1 treat after tea, which is 6:15pm, and most definitely none after walkies.
