Devil dog !!!

I have a 2 year old cocker spaniel-a very placid boy great with kids etc. Today for the first time l gave him a bone-to my horror he became a totally different dog growling and snarling if we approached him. He has never done anything like this before with toys or food. I did try to take his dinner away as he was eating it later tonight and he was fine. It seems the bone changes him into a devil dog.
Obviously the bone is in the bin and l won't buy another. Has anyone come across this before?

My two dogs love to play fight but they always end cuddling each other every night. But when I give them something really nice like a meaty bone, one of them becomes very possessive with it. He would snarl and may start a fight if the other one gets too close to his bone. It was cooked chicken before and now it moved on to meaty bone. It prob will be something else next month. Smile

My dog got like this when we gave him a bone from the butchers. Never done it with food or any other treat before, I just took it as he is really enjoying it, if I had an amazing slice of cake and it was under threat being taken from me I wouldn't be happy at all.

I now just give him a bone when the house is quiet and he won't be disturbed.

My pup does this. I'm trying to train her out of it by offering nicer things while she's got the bone. So for example I'll squirt primula cheese on the bone or give her a sausage then take the bone and stuff it with more sausages.

I never give her a bone while dc are around but hopefully she's learning that humans near bones is a good thing!
