Conflicting advice about when to neuter BC pup

I'm planning on neutering my nearly 7mo old BC pup. When I got him weighed at the vets they said they thought he was ready. He is cocking his leg 80% of the time, humping anything he can & showing huge interest in the ladies. His recall which was 99% perfect is now hopeless around female dogs.

At puppy class last night I mentioned the vet said they thought he was ready only to be told by the trainer that he was far too young??

I have to keep him on a lead all the time at classes because otherwise he bothers 2 older female pups that go that are due their first season. Other pups get let off to play.

I've done some google research but everyone seems to have a different opinion :(

I've spoken to the vet again to check if it is too soon & they told me that all dogs mature differently. I know the owner of a male BC pup 1mo older than mine who lives locally & when I asked her she said she had enquired & had been told to wait as her dog wasn't ready. Same vet as us.

Sorry this is long but I'm now totally confused!!!

There are lots of opinions, because for male dogs there is not a clear cut right answer. In a rush now, but will come back tomorrow and if no one else has given you the details will do so.

We have a bc and had him done at six months on the advice of the vets. No problems.

As lonecat there is no right or wrong answer for this one. The only thing castration really guarantees is that a dog can't get a bitch pregnant and that they can't get testicular cancer.

My plan was to get him done at 10mo, with a weeks recovery, before a 6 and 7 year old spend all their time looking after him (summer holidays). Girlson - did it stop humping etc.....

Kipper - we had our pup done at 7.5 months on the advice of our vet - humping has completely stopped as has marking plus he's no longer a target for other male dogs' aggression - he's otherwise unchanged

Ideally I'd have liked to have waited for a while longer but to be honest I'm glad it's over and done with and so far the effects have been all positive

Just had my Border Collie done at 8.5 months old. He seems perfectly happy and recovered very well. He seems to have stopped humping but it was only done last week so I don't think that can be attributed to neutering. I have always had any dog we have owned neutered at the first possible opportunity so wasn't a difficult decision for us to make.
