Pointy hounds include-
Greyhounds (Grunds)
Whippets (Whippys)
Lurchers
Italian Greyhounds (Iggys)
Salukis
Afghans
If you are a new pointy hound owner, an old and experienced owner or looking into getting one of these fabulous creatures, come and have a seat (that's not taken up with a hound :o ).

Come The Day
Come the day I take that final bend,
Can I count on you to be my friend?
To see I’m treated just and fair,
It means so much to know you care.

For, what the future holds in store,
Now that I can race no more,
Should be addressed for every hound,
Who parts the punter from his pound.

Tell them I don’t ask for much,
A kindly word, a gentle touch,
Somewhere warm to lay my head,
A meal each day to keep me fed,
Not just life- but quality,
This is how it ought to be.

Do not see me swept away,
I long to live another day,
With peace of mind, tranquillity,
And those who care surrounding me,
So tell them all- you have that choice,
I beg of you to be my voice.

All of my bitches have been spayed. Only one had spay incontinence and she was done ridiculously young by the pound rescue centre she came from - we had no choice and were too young to stand up to them at the time. She came home in a terrible state and we learned a valuable lesson about doing what's right for the individual dog - regardless of 'policy/rules'. None have had any other health problems either and the only one that got a bit portly was Oldgirl - and then only once she was really getting on, but I think she was allowed that at the age of 14.

Glad she's home safe. It will take a while for the effects of the GA to wear off, so she's likely to be woozy tonight. It tends to take a bit longer with sighthounds than it does with other breeds.

Hoping she has a quiet calm night and is back to herself in the morning. Flowers

Hmm they both look Familiar, seen both on fb Grin

Lola Has eaten a little and when I took peanut out she got up by was almost visibly swaying so didn't take her. Will take her for a wander to the green a bit later and see how she does.

PeanutPatty · 22/05/2014 20:50

Bless Lola. She will be so much brighter after tonight.

cinnamongreyhound · 22/05/2014 22:12

And then I look forward to 2 weeks of stopping her jumping or running! Very tight lead walks for 10-15 mins only and no free rein of the garden. Will see how she is when we go for her post op check Tuesday as that seems almost impossible!

mistlethrush · 22/05/2014 22:31

CMot - they look good on him! Mistlehound lost her collar somewhere out with the dog walker - I was somewhat upset as it was the collar with her 'good' tag on.... However, the next day I came home to find it hanging on the front door knob....

Had the thundershirt in use this morning - she really doesn't like thunder!

Gooner - that's lovely!

hairylittlegoblin · 23/05/2014 15:04

Yay! We're going to the EGLR event on Sunday!!

CMOTDibbler · 23/05/2014 16:51

Hurrah! You'll recognise me by the hound pictured above and a harassed expression...

PeanutPatty · 23/05/2014 23:39

I wanted to go too but have a birthday party. Harrumph.

Fannydabbydozey · 23/05/2014 23:54

Really looking forward to it. DH thinks it's a good time to go as we can't get a dog at the moment (kitchen extension half done well as missing gate) so he can be sure we won't sign up to adopt anyone Grin

He was slightly concerned when I announced we couldn't move the sink in the utility because it was the ideal spot for a dog bed.

Will keep an eye out for you Dibbler. Loving all the photos on this thread.

cinnamongreyhound · 24/05/2014 21:05

He's gorgeous fannydabbydozey!!

Lola is slowly getting back to normal, she was much more lovely in the evening and then quiet again this morning which I've put down to her painkillers wearing off. She's had a few accidents last night and today which shes never had before but I'm assuming everything in there is a bit delicate! I've been letting her out more often as I wasn't sure how strong her muscles would be to hold her bladder but we were asleep and out :(

PeanutPatty · 25/05/2014 11:07

Lola is probably still out of sorts and the toilet troubles a result of this.

Have found a new collar for Blue. Can't decide on the colour. I can see how it all gets addictive. I'm thinking of getting another muzzle so it all matches! GrinGrin #bonkerspointyowneralert

CMOTDibbler · 25/05/2014 19:22

Had a lovely morning at the EGLR event, seeing so many pointies, and some lovely MNetters too!

hairylittlegoblin · 25/05/2014 19:50

It was lovely. So many friendly owners and gorgeous hounds! Great to meet you Dibbler and chat about dogs. Will definitely be hanging around on the thread until we're ready to rehome. DH has already been assessing the garden for likely escape routes Grin

TheCunnyFunt · 26/05/2014 17:37

Hello all :) how is everybody? We had a I can't stop watching the video, I'm totally in awe :o he never gets to go off lead. We've had Sprocket over 2 years now and he's only come off a handful of times, literally, like 5 times. Here is a screenshot -or two, or three-- from the video.

Lepaskilf I've just seen your pics. I know a greyhound/deerhound called Alfie Shock you don't live in a town beginning with G do you...?

cinnamongreyhound · 27/05/2014 08:29

They are fab photos TheCunnyFunt! I'd like a better camera to get some good shots of mine because it is a fab sight :)

Lola is pretty much back to normal now, now we're having the fun of stopping her being her loony self! She still isn't back to normal with her toileting but we're off to the vet today so we'll see what they say. She can't go more than 3 hrs without a wee and a poo it seems. We've been shutting our bedroom door so she scratches at the door and wakes us so we can let her out rather than just coming down and going on the carpet but she went at 11, 1.30, 4.30 and 6.30 :( night time is usually 10-11 until 6.30 but at weekends it can be as late as 8 and she doesn't ask to go until we get up.

moosemama · 27/05/2014 12:28

I'm hopelessly behind on the thread, sorry.

Cunny, lovely pictures of Sprocket in full flight. I never tire of watching my two running free. Smile

Cinnamon, good to hear Lola is feeling better - wonder if she has a water infection or touch of cystitis after her op?

Pip had his first experience of staying at the kennels this weekend (Friday morning to Monday lunchtime). I was ridiculously worried about him, but he was absolutely fine. We turned up unannounced to collect them and whilst he was clearly over the moon to see us, he was also nice and relaxed and not looking at all stressed in his kennel/run, as well as obviously being very fond of the head kennel hand.

Apparently the only sticky moment when he was scared of a thunder/lightning storm. Head kennel hand said he was shaking, but didn't make a huge fuss and was clean overnight, so he must have calmed down afterwards, as they often find truly fearful dogs mess overnight when it's stormy.

Think he had a blast running free in the paddock with Lurcherboy, but was restricted to lead walks on the last day, as the ground was so wet and muddy they were worried about him injuring himself if he ran at speed and ended up skidding.

Such a load off my mind, as we have our annual Legoland torture weekend in a few weeks' time and the dogs are booked in again then.

Dh, dd and I were all at a festival battling copious amounts of mud and rather too much rain. Both dogs have been dead to the world in their beds all morning (I find they're always exhausted after a couple of days in kennels) and the dcs and I are having a pj day while my ageing aching bones try to recover from days of trudging through thick mud and camping. (I'm getting far too old for all this festivalling lark, but we do love it and we all had a blast! Grin )

TheCunnyFunt · 27/05/2014 14:16

Did anyone watch the video?

Cinnamon I just took the video on my iphone! I'm not actually 100% sure where my digital camera is...

I hope Lola's toiletting gets back to normal soon, must be V tiring getting up all those times in the night! What does the fox vet say?

Moose it sounds like they had fun at kennels (apart from the storm of course), especially in the paddock! It's lovely when they look so excited to see you isn't it?

GobblersKnob · 27/05/2014 14:47

I love to watch them run, it's just breathtakingly :)

Really wanted to go to the Evesham show (new dog is from Evesham) but we were at a wedding the day before and were all exhausted.

New dog is settling very well, had been off the lead (terrifying) but recall is improving already. Hasn't been a great day though, she saw a cat this morning for the first time on a walk and went crazy, yodeling, barking, crying and trying to turn somersaults. Took a very long time to calm her down, then later in the morning left her to nip to the shops (third time I have done this) and she managed a fair bit of destruction :( Ah well early days..... and she is still a big puppy really.

cinnamongreyhound · 27/05/2014 14:50

I have now! Peanut will run like that for ages, at least the first 5 mins of being off lead are hairing around, sprocket must be very restrained!

I've got another appointment Thursday am if it's no better. It could be the food, painkillers, anaesthetic, general upset of the operation or a weakness/tenderness of her general tummy area Confused. Apparently all went to plan so no reason to believe she's got any damage to cause the problem.

moosemama · 27/05/2014 16:06

Yes, did watch the video - what a good lad with his recall, especially if he doesn't get to go off-lead very often.

Gobbler, early days as you say. I'm sure she'll settle down when she gets her paws properly under your table so-to-speak.

cinnamon, did they take a urine sample?
