Pointy hounds include-
Greyhounds (Grunds)
Whippets (Whippys)
Lurchers
Italian Greyhounds (Iggys)
Salukis
Afghans
If you are a new pointy hound owner, an old and experienced owner or looking into getting one of these fabulous creatures, come and have a seat (that's not taken up with a hound :o ).

Come The Day
Come the day I take that final bend,
Can I count on you to be my friend?
To see I’m treated just and fair,
It means so much to know you care.

For, what the future holds in store,
Now that I can race no more,
Should be addressed for every hound,
Who parts the punter from his pound.

Tell them I don’t ask for much,
A kindly word, a gentle touch,
Somewhere warm to lay my head,
A meal each day to keep me fed,
Not just life- but quality,
This is how it ought to be.

Do not see me swept away,
I long to live another day,
With peace of mind, tranquillity,
And those who care surrounding me,
So tell them all- you have that choice,
I beg of you to be my voice.

Oooh and my lurcher finds a thundershirt is really helpful when its thundering or there are fireworks around - if there are particular triggers you might find something like that or adaptil might help with dog 2?

kerpob · 08/08/2014 22:49

Thanks for the advice mistlethrush, I've looked at Jim greenwood's site but unfortunately we live in NI and nothing here. Yes will look at your other suggestions as well, hopefully something will help.

YourHandInMyHand · 09/08/2014 16:43

Just popping in for a sit on the cushion, we've been away on holiday and I am more tired out than when I went!. Smile

ShyDog has had a lovely stay at kennels. If anyone lives in East Yorkshire I can recommend Woodlands kennels in Coniston. Was worried how she would be with her coming to me from kennels I didn't want her feeling abandoned or getting upset but they said she settled in really well and she seemed very happy there. Was very fussy to see me though. Grin

Mine can be growly if he has a long time to get wound up seeing a dog approaching and I've been told he feels he's protecting our other dog. He wags his tail the whole time and I try not to put him on a short lead to early but haven't had any professional advice. If the people are quite dog savvy they often let him say hello despite the growl and then he's fine!

Very sad today my friends dog was from a litter born with the lady we got Lola from when she rescued the pregnant mum. His sister went missing Saturday and they found her today, unfortunately she was dead. Found in woods and suspect she ran into a fallen tree :( they are going to be 3 in September, feel so terrible for the owner.

hairylittlegoblin · 16/08/2014 18:51

cinnamon Thanks How sad. Our old rescue was a devil for escaping and I lived in fear of something like that.

I haven't been on the thread for aggges but the kitchen extension is nearly finished and we're thinking about rehoming in the autumn. I've been stalking occasionally glancing at the EGLR Facebook page and they have a new litter of puppies which might be ready for homing in a couple of months.

Am I mad to be considering a puppy? What things do I need to be thinking about? DC are 7 and 4.5, both familiar with dogs from the extended family. We have an enclosed garden in a quiet cul de sac. DH and I work shifts but never at the same time so always someone around. A small park within walking distance and 2 more a 5 minute drive away.

Keep thinking I'm missing something and someone will come along and say, "What about X?" And I won't have considered it at all.

DH is dog-mad and would happily rehome tomorrow but I want to be sure we're thinking it through. Sorry for the thread hijack!

CMOTDibbler · 17/08/2014 12:05

Thats awful Cinnamon.

HairylittleGoblin - are you eyeing up Galas puppies? They are lovely.

If one of you is always around, then although puppies are hard work to begin with in terms of house training etc, it doesn't last forever. But the nights and going out very frequently is a drag.

We have just brought our new puppy home Grin He seems to be getting on fine with cmotdog, and following their lunch, both are having a nice snore

hairylittlegoblin · 17/08/2014 14:15

CMOT - yes. They're beautiful! Glad the new puppy is settling in well. How exciting.

Am still in 2 minds about doing the puppy phase in October/November. .. Think it might be miserable for all concerned but we'll see. Going to wait until the kids are back at school before making a final decision.

Logarhythm · 17/08/2014 17:17

Can I join you guys.

Our new 10 week whippet pup arrived this afternoon. Such a sweet little thing, seems to be toilet trained and got over the puppy biting - too good to be true? He's not too keen on kibble - he much preferred leftover lamb - I feel a change of feeding coming on. Grin And he plays a mean game of football!

CMOTDibbler · 19/08/2014 13:37

I am amazed at how well this is going! Puppy and cmotdog have slept happily the whole night through cuddled up together in cmotdogs crate (their choice), puppy is doing a lovely sit for his food (like his bruv), and we just left them for an hour in the crate with no issues
He's using a puppy pad fine, but not asking to go out

His poo is not good though, so we have to work out what suits him

hairylittlegoblin · 19/08/2014 15:27

You're definitely making this puppy thing sound doable! Glad he's settling in so well.

cinnamongreyhound · 25/08/2014 20:06

The thread dropped off my tio but looks like I haven't missed much!

Yay to new puppies, every time I see them I wish we'd got one but I know it was right for us and we all love Lola to bits! My mums puppy was great but at 10months now he's a proper delinquent!

We're on our first holiday with the dogs and it's going great so far. We got tablets from the vet for Lola's sickness and all she did was dribble! We've been out every day and without medication she hasn't been sick :)

We're in Yorkshire and I can't believe how dog friendly everywhere is. We went to Whitby Saturday and there were dogs everywhere and no one pulled their children away from peanut! We even took them in a shop!!!! Dogs are knackered every day so I think they're enjoying it :)

mistlethrush · 26/08/2014 15:59

How long are you in Yorkshire for Cinnamon?

We are now a 2 dog household - very small Border Terrier has come to join us from a relative. No big fall-outs so far!

CMOTDibbler · 26/08/2014 16:03

Any photos Mistle? Great to hear they are getting on.

Both of mine are snoozing on the sofa next to me atm. We have discovered that going anywhere with puppy takes a long time as people want to fuss him and comment on his colouring.

cinnamongreyhound · 26/08/2014 19:25

Until Friday mistlethrush, congratulations on your new addition I seem to remember you mentionin the possibility a while ago.

I can't believe how much interest my two have had since we've been here CMOTDibbler!

A few holiday photos :)

mistlethrush · 26/08/2014 23:58

Ah.. bad timing - otherwise we might have managed a walk!

Not many photos as yet.. trouble is you need to be prostrate to take a decent picture as she's so small! Nails are significantly shorter now than when we took ownership - and all we've done is walk her on 3 days! A bit of brisk pavement walking seems to be doing wonders. She's not going out for a full walk wiht the dog walker at the moment as we need to get the yapping under control ourselves and get her a bit more confident that she'll be OK with us first. New food seems to be having no ill effects - having read the ingredients of what she's been eating previously, I'm not surprised... the 'chicken' version has 'minimum 4% chicken' !!! and too many things saying 'extracts' and 'derivatives' to make it worth while eating.

cinnamongreyhound · 27/08/2014 20:53

How old is she mistlethrush?

We've had a lovely day, took dogs on steam train from Whitby and long walk when we got to gouthland and then the boys wanted to go crabbing when we got back to Whitby. Caught 4 crabs and then Lola ate dh's bait and hook :( :( :( trip to vet tonight for injection to stop her stomach emptying and back in the morning for x-rays and surgery. Dh is cross with me and I'm just so worried about my girl :(

mistlethrush · 27/08/2014 21:53

Aww hope she's OK. Will be crossing fingers and toes.

She's 7.

Thanks mistlethrush. Quite a few years of bad habits and poor diet to correct then!

Did they say they wouldn't rehome because of no garden mouldingsunbeams? I would have thought if you have somewhere you can take the dog for comfort breaks between walks and are prepared to walk regularly then you'd be able to have a greyhound?

I know the lurcher rescue I got mine from will happily consider people without a garden if they've got a suitable place for exercise and are willing to do the first thing in the morning and last thing at night dashes up the footpath... A friend with a lurcher lives in a 1st floor flat...

Hope all goes well with Lola.

Small dog broke into a box with a hyacinth bulb (rather old) in it and destroyed that in several places around the house... Must be her as mistlehound hasn't bothered with the box in the last 6 months...

Small dog onto fully mistlehound type food today - we'll see how it goes. Having read what's in her 'meat' I really wanted to get her off it onto something somewhat better asap. Mistlehound is bolting her food rather - it will be better if we can get her onto larger lumps that she has to crunch a bit more - we're keeping them in separate rooms with a closed door between them for feeding as it definitely could be a problem area. However, last night they each ate a chew in each other's presence quite happily.

cinnamongreyhound · 28/08/2014 10:24

I thought the RGT where the same with gardens. We were supposed to have a 6ft fence but don't, when they did home visit they discussed how we'd manage it and were fine. If you are walking I'd think you could have a chat with them and see if they will consider you.

That's the only problem we've had with our two as well when dh gave Lola something and not peanut. She went in at 8.30 and vet said it's quite common in Whitby and she's removed several! Got to wait until 3pm to call.

cinnamongreyhound · 28/08/2014 18:10

Got my girly back, now feeling sorry for herself in the boot while the boys pack up their crabbing stuff!

mistlethrush · 28/08/2014 21:17

I hope she recovers quickly
