Puppy doing well on lead but how to get better?

My very placid 8 month old show type cocker is very eager to please but sadly has a bit of a useless owner! Is there anyone in the doghouse who can give advice on improving lead walking?

I have been working on loose lead training as she was starting to pull too much for my liking. I read a few different guides and started treating her when she loosened the lead and paid attention to me. We are now to the stage where we can walk along, stop, walk some more, stop again all on a loose lead (with a treat given at some point).

My problem is that she will do this for a couple of minutes and then seems to get bored and just starts stretching out the lead again. She also spends the whole time she is "heeling" staring up at me and waiting for her treat. All I really want is a relaxed dog who will trot along beside or just in front of me on a loose lead.

Is there anything else I should be doing to achieve this? Do I just keep stretching out the time between treats? any help most appreciated!
