oh help we are crazy aren't we Hmm Hmm

for 3 years we had the most amazing boxer - he was a rescue and 7 already when we got him. he had a lot of issues including severe skin allergy which really made the house reek even when bathed every other day & he literally slobbered at eye level but his personality was impeccable. sadly in Feb we lost him to the latest flare up of his auto immune disease Sad Sad

We were all gutted but especially DH who is a boxer fanatic & 5 yr old DS. I was promised a French bulldog next as I've always wanted one. but I could just totally see neither DH or DS want one - the only dog for them is a boxer. as DH does all of the daily walks, I really thought this was unfair to make him have a dog he's not crazy about.

so this weekend I gave in & agreed to go see a boxer who needs a new home as her mum works days & dad works nights so she wasn't always getting walked. she is stunning, fantastic with the 3 yr old there & of course DH fell in love with her so how could I say no.

but she's only 1! massive change from our placid old boy. She's well trained but obv still bouncy bless her. & we've got a brand new, immaculate house with open plan & laminate flooring throughout...I can just see it being totally destroyed. We also both work aktoigh I only do 4 days per week & Dh works from home 1 day so shed be home alone 3 days per week of which we'd pay a dog walker for a half hour walk at midday. DH goes for a 45 min walk every eve no matter what, & there is a 100ft uphill garden. oh yes...We also have a 4 month old baby.

are we completely insane? is my house & sanity about to be destroyed? she is utterly beautiful though & DH / DS are so happy....

My boxer is 10 now so I hope done one will come and post with more knowledge or a better memory.

My boy didn't really calm down until he was about 6. He did chew but only mobile phones and remotes so as long as they were out of the way it was fine.

That is so sad about your last boxer, you must all have been devastated. We're a boxer family and I'd always recommend them for families, they are such great dogs!

There is absolutely nothing as wonderful for children than growing up with a boxer puppy, you won't regret it! My only worry would be leaving him for so long on his own, he will need a long walk to wear him out to be left for that long. Although you say you have a 100ft garden? I'd recommend getting a dog door. If the garden is secure, and you could get a dog door, he'd definitely be able to wear himself out!
