what do you feed your dog?

We've got a lab cross Newfoundland puppy, he's 4.5 months old.

We are currently feeding him eukanuba large breed puppy food. Which is what he was eating when we had him.

We just want to make sure the food that he is eating is decent.

I feed my dogs a raw/BARF diet - a mixture of pre-prepared branded stuff, frozen minces/tins/trays/chunks etc., and chicken portions, rabbits, pheasants, offal, tripe.

With a giant breed please be v careful whatever you choose is specifically formulated for large/giant breed growth until about 18 months old, they are very prone to developmental joint disease anyway and imbalanced diet will make it worse.

Got two Springers just 5 months and changed to Arden Grange soon after we got them because we were told that's a good quality food and the Love Springers site recommended it.,plus the trainer at our classes .They seem to be thriving ,but have toyed with trying something else when they are a bit older as the little girl in particular can have rather loose poos.However she does eat poop at times when out and about,a habit our vet says lots of puppies do but grow out of - hope so !
Guess it depends on your budget and hopefully some other larger breed owners will be along to advise.I have gone dizzy researching all the foods on-line and my family think its hilarious because with our previous dogs,older rescue dogs when we got them,I just picked up whatever was on offer at the time.

We've got a St Bernard cross rottie so wanted large breed food. We were on Purina beta but now using Arden grange large breed. He is much keener to eat this, his coat is lovely and poos are firmer. Going to he sticking with Arden grange for foreseeable future.

I have a collie x springer on a Skinners working dog food, 'field and trial crunchy'. Needed to put weight on him. He looks amazing now, his coat is so shiny too. Can recommend if for weight gain on v active dogs.

Our springer and lab have been on skinners maintenence all their life ( apart from puppy stage)and have had no digestive or skin problems.

We feed Millies Wolfheart. Lots of different recipes to choose from, UK family run company, good quality UK sourced proteins, grain free etc etc. Free delivery.

And the best bit..............lovely firm poos and no more smelly wind, our ddog had awful poo until we switched, now picking up poo is a pleasure (as much as poo picking up could be!)

Good customer service and feeding advice on their very active facebook group, or over the phone directly with the owners.

Our black lab looks like he has been varnished his coat is so shiny.

Raw - a mix of Nutriment and wings/bones.

Millies Wolfheart here too. Great food and our dog looks really well on it.

Mine has natures finest organic 'wet' food and james well beloved dry. Both recommended by vet and trainer, her coat is amazing and shes very healthy.

Ours has Wainwright's salmon and potato, he had a very upset tummy when he came to us (rescue lurcher) but he's doing really well on it, his coat looks lovely and his breath doesn't smell :)

We get it on subscription from PAH, they deliver a big bag every month and the fifth bag is free.

Currently Burns. I have a dog very sensitive to additives, he's hyper at the best of times and rarely sits still. Have massive trouble putting and keeping weight on him. Thinking of trying Taste of the Wild for him, it looks like a better food for similar price.
