This little guy is coming to live with us in 4 weeks time! Just wanted to share as I'm so excited. Our old boy was PTS in Jan and life just hasn't been right with no dog in the house. However, I'm nervous as I haven't had a puppy for so long. Tell me it's going to be OK! Smile

Think you should start planning some puppy shopping demons. We pick Mille up on the 15th, we'll have to swap gundog puppy stories. I imagine there will be lots of attempted rabbit chasing!

Hello everyone, especially Banana (we are getting a cockapoo puppy in 2 weeks)! So excited about our new family member, but also mentally gearing up for the initial stages - forgot what is is like to have broken nights!

I am planning on crate training, but purchased a crate to accomodate a full grown dog without dividers - was that a mistake?

Also, I am planning on raw feeding and click training - anyone else who can give advice?

I'll post pix when I have them.

Boy or girl puppy?

Do you have a name yet?

Isthatwhatdemonsdo · 06/04/2014 10:17

Mom: the crate size will be fine. We used a crate for our Goldie and will be using a crate for lab pup when she comes next week.

Welcome to the club.
You must be really excited, we pick up our Springer puppy on Tuesday. Have booked her in for her first jabs next week and will be doing last minute shopping this weekend. She is currently being fed on Beta puppy so will let her settle for a week or so before looking at changing, what is yours on and what will you be changing to?
It's getting really close now Smile

mczeba - Dorothy is soooooooo cute

McZeba · 09/04/2014 07:52

Thanks all. Dorothy is on Wagg, which is not my preference - still researching which dried food would suit her best. 3 more sleeps!

We pick puppy up tomorrow a few days early and I've still not done any puppy shopping!!

Puupies - I just love them.
This is my George at 5 months old trying to drive the car.

The first few months are super important for puppies. They must socialise with as many friendly dogs as possible. Once they have had all their inoculations get them out on the common meeting dogs. Look for socialisation classes or puppy training classes. Introduce them to as many new situations as possible, busses, trains, emergency vehicles, kids, cats, people in High Viz jacket and motor cycle helmets. Search on the web for firework sound for puppies.

This will all build up their confidence for the future. Unconfident dogs can bark and bite.

Puppies are experts at body language. If you are anxious they will pick up on this. This is especially important when you are out meeting dogs at the park that you do not know. If you are unsure if the other dog is friendly ask the owners.

Any questions let me know, happy to help

Peter

That's great advice Peter, thanks. I have just bought the Gwen Bailey book so am about to start reading before we pick our springer girl up next Tuesday.
Anymore tips are gratefully received, especially for the early days.

McZeba · 09/04/2014 19:41

Thank you Peter!
