Does your dog make you feel safe?

Just that really. We have a gsd, a great big fluff ball and muck spreader. She does bark occasionally and can look very menacing if you are a leaf or a cat (cat must be a minimum of 3 feet away).
Someone coming up to the door or even walking straight into the house can do so safe in the knowledge of either being ignored or greeted with licks & tail wags.

Luckily we didn't get her for security, good job as she'd be crap. Unless we got burgled by a tree or the local moggy

Anyone have an equally useless canine companion?

I do feel safe when out walking with him, he's a very big black greyhound that also wears a muzzle, as he is unpredictable with other dogs. If, at any point I feel unsafe on a walk (shifty looking person close by etc) I'll whip off his muzzle and carry it in full view of the shifty person.

I'd like to get a stranger (that I know but he doesn't) to 'break' into our house to see what he would do, also I'd like a bloke that the dog doesn't know to 'attack' me to see if he would defend me or not.

My boxers are all waggy tails (yep, they've got tails ) and 'lets see who it is' when people walk up the driveway/ring the bell and think callers are going to make the same fuss of them that the postman does...

...until the day someone came to fix the flat roof, male boxer went mental when he went in the garden, looked up and saw a man standing on the roof.... In my head I was saying 'goooood boy'.

When we had an 8st GSD I had no qualms walking her round the farms/countryside/early morning on my own, no way would she have let anybody near me.
