Prong collar. WTF?

We came across a rottie loose in the woods today. It was harassing my mums greyhound who was on the lead as she's just had major surgery. We couldn't see or hear the owner at all. I went to pull the dog back by its collar when my mum stopped me. It had a prong collar on. So if you pull on its collar you hurt it.

The owner came up eventually and I challenged her to tell me why it had prong collar. Apparently it's an 11 stone dog and is uncontrollable without it. I pointed out that why would any animal come back to you if you were going to hurt it.

I've never seen such a vile thing on a dog before. Why would anyone think it's a good idea? A handfull of biscuits would do the job far better.

If the owner is on here I sincerely hope you think twice about putting an instrument of torture on your pet again.

I've just been to the park with my dog and we saw a dog with a prong collar. It was a very nervous dog, and I really doubt the collar will help that. Sad

i had a rottie who was a big lad - 9 stone but not fat, just enormous! rotties can for sure be stubborn buggers, but Filthy was the most amazing dog and took to training like a dream.

those prong collars are horrific. what a revolting thing to do to a dog.

Hi I have read some of yours views on them collars and one thing I have realised is why on earth would anybody let uncontrollable dog of the lead in public park??? That should be illegal!!! and surely the owner should be regretting admitting to the fact he has to use prong collar to control his/her dog but yet he let's this dog run freely??? In my personal opinion dogs that are not responding to recall should be on lead at all times in public place's?what's your views on that?
