He loves me.........is it too much?

Eric is 9 weeks tomorrow and we picked him up on Sunday. He is a lovely little thing who is happiest when he is breathing the same air as me so ideally for him he'd be perched on my shoulder or failing that laid at my feet with one paw touching so that he could check I hadn't moved.
Trouble is nobody else gets a look in whilst ever I am about and he cries when I leave the room even if there are four others with him desperate for a cuddle.
It is understandable I suppose as I am at home all day and so he sees less of the others but is this healthy? Should he be so attached to one person? Should I be doing anything to discourage this?

I think its lovely, and my dogs are definately mine - this is generally becaause i just let them be and don't get in their faces. So they choose me. Also i feed them - maybe get other members of the family to feed them.

He is missing his mummy and you are the substitute. As he becomes older, better socialised and more confident he will probably be less attached. My dog was exactly like this with me a s a puppy but she now is happy to be in the company of anyone in the family but she still loves me best

I kicked my puppy 5 times today because he is often sat absolutely right beside my feet, wherever I am, whatever I am doing, but sort of stealthily gets there, so I turn around to reach something in the kitchen and trip over him or kick him He never seems to mind..

I don't mind either, Ddog1 is DH's dog, despite being with me the vast majority of the time, he adores DH, Ddog2 is mine.

Same as littlewhitebag really, as he gets older, perhaps practise just popping out the room and coming straight back, then wait a tiny bit longer etc, so he knows you always come back. Crate training can work wonders too, neither of mine have ever been massively crate loving, but I still feed the puppy in there, give him kongs in there, chuck treats in and use the crate at night or if I am out.

It's very early days Insanity. He's just left his Mum and the only home he knew and he needs the security of someone he knows he can trust. At this stage I wouldn't worry, just try the odd minute here and there with you out of sight and see if you can find something he loves to distract him - even if it's just for a few seconds to begin with.

Pip was the same, in fact he was super-needy and yelled if I was half a step away from his crate when we first brought him home. This afternoon he's been asleep in the kitchen for an hour and a half, with the door shut and me in the other room and if there's someone else home I am still his favourite by far, but he's happy to be entertained by whoever else is available if I'm busy.

Ah, your post makes him sounds incredibly sweet tho. I know I'm not much help but my dog has been a little aloof in terms of close contact from the minute we brought her home (8 weeks).

She follows me everywhere and always has an eye on me, goes mad when I get home (even if I'm gone for 3 minutes) but doesn't like to actually be to close to anybody, she'll sleep in the vicinity and occasionally jumps up for a cuddle but usually moves after 5 mins.

I think that your pup may well be a 'cuddler' and he will be less clingy after a while. I echo the idea of getting others to feed him.

What breed is he?

I wish mine was more cuddly.

I saw a french bulldog puppy yesterday and it made me all soppy. I thought to myself.....hmmmm.....I could have 2 dogs.

This kids would love me, the husband, I think, would move into the shed

He's a poodle/shih tzu so I think he's probably going to be a lapdog tbh. He is becoming more confident I think because he has ventured out of the room I'm in without me on a few occasions now. He definitely knows his name although he is selective about when he responds and his character is becoming more apparent. He "speaks" when you ask "What you say?" and he barks every time I open the fridge so he has got it sussed where the chicken is.
I think on balance he is an easy dog in so far as he sleeps through now until about 6, he's pretty reliable at toiletting on the paper and he likes snoozing by my feet obviously this could change as he gets older though.
