I want to kill DH

Yesterday out of the blue my Dh turned up with a dog, a Shar Pei. He said he rescued it from a man he knows vaguely through work. I have no problems with dogs and have happily raised my little Shih Tzu from a baby.

However this dog is HUGE. He's only a puppy, 7 months I think, He seems friendly but my god he pulls like a steam train.

Dh works all day long 5 days a week so walks etc would be down to me, the problem with this is I am now 30 weeks pregnant with SPD and he is simply too strong for me.

I told him he has to take the dog back where he got it because I cannot look after it properly nor do I really want to. DH says he can't take it back to the dogs owner because he was mistreating the dog. Im torn about what to do now, would a rescue take him? or should I hang on and hope for the best?

What the hell was you DH thinking with you 30 weeks pregnant?! Jeez, call all the local ones that come from a google search and try and get a rescue to take the poor dog.

Loads of Shar Peis have problems with their skin because of the folds, are very strong, as you know, and I can't believe you want to be bothered with all this when you will soon have a small baby as well.

I wouldn't usually advise it, but in your case, I would try to rehome or get a rescue to take the dog, as soon as possible. You simply could not train and socialize this dog in the few weeks you have before bringing a tiny baby in the house, even if you were able to physically handle it. A large breed puppy with past mistreatment is a very difficult dog to deal with in the best circumstances, requiring a huge amount of care, socialization, and training.

Ok kill your DH and then contact the shair pei rescue get the dog collected and fostered with people that know what they are doing, who will assess the dog and find it the correct home.

contact Sharpei rescue,via google, they are not the easiest breed, health or temperment wise, and much better suited to an enthusiast rather than a general rescue.

They one of the breeds most prone to (expensive) health problems and, although I'm sure there are lots of lovely ones, deed not breed yadayada....they were originally bred as a fighting dog and I would not have one in my house if I had a young child. I've been a vet for ten years and, although I have seen some sweet ones, I have seen a fair few nasty ones.

I called Shar Pei rescue today and they agreed to take him in, they are coming over to meet him today. Thank you for your advice, I had never heard of that rescue before.

Oh fantastic! It's lovely that your DH wanted to help a dog who he thought was being mistreated but it just wasn't the right time or dog for you. Great that the rescue can come so quickly.
