Pup neutered 9 days ago, scrotum looks red today

10 mth old lab pup was neutered 9 days ago and up until today everything has been good.

This morning i Had him out for his first decent walk since the op.

This afternoon i noticed a red patch about 5mm square on his (now empty baggy) scrotum. It's well away from his scar/stitches which seem to have healed well. It just looked red with no broken skin.

Put a little sudocrem on it (after reading on Internet this is ok). Just checked it and it is a little damp/oozy now.

Planning to take to vet late tomorrow afternoon, does that sound okay or is there a possibility he's got a massive infection going on inside and needs urgently seen? Or am I worrying too much?!?

Pup seems fine otherwise.

I would be inclined just to keep it clean and use pevidene scrub which you can get from the chemist/vets. Do get it checked out but in all honesty, it just sounds like he has been licking at the area because it is itching as it heals. Sudocreme wont do any harm but its sticky and not easy to wash off.

He's does have a lovely stubble down there now so it must be itching. He managed to destroy his cone yesterday so last night was his first without it on at night, thought it would be okay because he's had it off during the day closely watched and hasn't been licking.

I've got some bitter apple spray (to stop him chewing carpets) which it says can also be used on wounds. But nervous about using it incase it stings, but its supposed to be designed for this..........

if he isn't bothering at it during the day then it should be fine, and its been a while since the op, we use to recommend the cone to stay on for ten days, but the stitches will be out soon - it will be fine.
