Gross! Dog eating from the cat's litter tray!

Eeeeeuw! [vom]

Just realised my greyhound is eating poo from the cat's litter tray!

Any ideas how I can stop her doing it? Litter tray is in my tiny bathroom as nowhere else to put it and shutting out the dog would mean shutting out the cat. :-/

Totally normal, cat food is packed with protein which isn't all digested and comes out the other end, a tasty snack for any dog. Only way to stop her is to put the tray somewhere inaccessible to her and not the cat, a baby gate on the door maybe? A litter tray with a cat sized entrance?

Hmm I have been tempted in the past by the litter trays with the little doors but I think that:
a) the cat would be scared to go in Hmm
and
b) the dog would just stick her head through the little door. Grin

My main concern apart from the gross factor was that the actual cat litter that I put in the tray may not be good for the dog?

Won't be great for her no. You could always try raising it up onto a shelf or something.

I think I will have to be extra vigilant and try to clear the tray as often as I can. Not really anywhere else it could go. :-/

I have this problem and you just have to be extra careful to scoop as soon as the cat has done it! I can't tell you how disgusting dog kisses are after a snack from the cat litter tray!!

Yes I have a cat poo loving dog as well, the at goes once a day after he's had his evening dinner usually about. 8.30 pm the dog knows this, we have a daily battle of who can get to the tray first, the litter tray is covered and the dogs not small but she can still get into it Hmm

Cat sick also a good one, the cat " loves" the fog so much he wants to share his dinner so sicks it back up, the cat only has to retch once and the dog is off the sofa faster than Usain Bolt to eat it HmmHmmHmm

Yes more proof that dogs are just delightful.

Unfortunately, had to have my poor old cat pts just before Christmas but while she was alive it was always a race as to who got to the litter tray first, the dog or me. Given that cat food, at least the one my cat was on, actually smells like cat poo, it's not really surprising dogs like it.

My dog was always a bit obsessed with the litter (recycled paper based litter) and would take it out of the tray and play with it; even found she'd stored some of her carrot in it once when she started digging in the litter one afternoon and produced a piece of that morning's carrot. Lovely.

That's because it's mainly meat. Dogs are scavengers, they will eat virtually anything, no matter how much we try to humanise them.

Yes my previous dog used to eat the cat poo from the garden and then come in and try and kiss me, it's totally gross. God knows why my cats feel the need to poo in our garden!
